Cleaning Mag wheels with Black TEA

I reckons this should be in the Good Oil.
Forum member Extreme, posted recently that Black Cold Tea in a squirter bottle would remove brake dust from Mag Wheels.
Today I put it to the Test. Here are the results.
    1. Before

    2. Spray of cold black tea

    3. Very quick go over with a dust pan brush.
    10 seconds work.

1st Rinse off to compare brushed and non brushed. Shows that water did not budge the brake dust, but the lightly brushed section is clean.

The final result, approx 2 mins work in all that includes spraying tea, brush and rinse off.

Oops I did miss a spot up the top spoke, but the results are outstanding.
Black tea is a good brake dust cleaner and costs next to nicks.

Excellent results. I'll have to give it a go.

Any recommendations on brand and blend of tea for best results?

    Nice choice in tyres btw.

You beat me to the punch.

I've just given the black tea a try, using two heaped tablespoons of madura loose leaf tea in about 250ml of water, boiled for about 5 minutes. The results seem to be about the same as what I get at the local car wash giving the wheels a scrub with the foaming brush.

Neither method does much to shift burnt in brake dust which you can still feel on the rim.

    Pic 4 is the control.
Mag was sprayed with tea, I only brushed that bottom part and let the left side soak during that time. Then rinsed with water the result was left side unchanged, bottom brushed area was clean.

Won't make any difference to cleaning performance, which I'm assuming relies on the tannins in the tea. In fact hot liquid should shift the grime better than cold.

We have always used omikron mag wheel cleaner as we had 20 litres left when the dealership closed up, its good for inside the wheels, but i usually just go over them with a sponge and car wash when i do the rest, however we have bendix 4wd pads in the Disco's now and they have very minimal dust compared to the originals, which turned the wheels black after about 1000km's in the city.

    Cheers
    Will
