    Hi,
There is a method which must be used, or it won't start till you do it.

Firstly loosen the earth lead (only wiggly loose, no more)

    Windows up, everything electrical off.
Key in, ign on for 10 seconds
    Ign off, key out.
    Disconnect earth lead.

    Done!

Read the manual first under Battery disconnect though, in case I've stuffed up some where.

Vehicle should start ok when you re connect every thing.

    cheers

ps, you could connect a small 12V battery or battery charger to the leads (careful of shorting any thing) and you won't loose radio presets or have to do the witchery thingy doozey thing with the ign key. Haven't actually done this on the Puma, but the battery place did it on the Corolla recently when I replaced the battery, and I noted the idea for future use.

Mine wouldn't start after a disconnect and some fiddling. Locked it with the fob, waited 4 mins then unlocked it with the fob then it started.

If you are just doing a battery change over or setting up aux batteries than you could always use another 12v battery with a lead plugged into the 12v outlet (cig lighter) on the dash, with ignition in I guess.

This is how RACQ change out batteries and not upset computers or radio settings.

the only thing doing it this way that I can think of is that you would have to be careful not to let the disconnected positive battery lead touch anything (wrap it in elec tape as soon as disconnected) as there may be power in it from the other battery via the electrical system?

    correct.

shorting the positve with a memory saver connected can result in 1 of 2 outcomes.

    1. loss of system memories (and potentially a security lock out/down)
    2. as above + a blown fuse on the lighter socket (which on some vehicles is shared and will bring other unexpected wierdassery.)

I have had the battery disconnected several times, once overnight, while setting up second battery and other wiring - never lost radio codes or any other issues.....just lucky, maybe
