    D2 Auto - No drive.

Asking some questions here on behalf of someone who has a TD5 powered D2 Auto. While he was driving it the other day, the charge light came on, then went off, and as the light went off, the vehicle lost all drive. It hasn't come back since. To add a bit of confusion to the story, there is also an intermittent problem with the unlocking of the car. As a side note, the alternator is fine and is pumping out good voltage. Battery has since been checked and it is fine. The engine starts and runs fine.

After it was towed back to another forum members house and locked for the night, the next day it simply would not unlock - both fobs no go. It also would not unlock with the key.

Battery voltage is good, but to make sure, a jump battery was connected from under the car to the starter. Still nothing. Long story short, we had to break a window to get in. (That's a whole story on its own and I'll leave others to tell that tale.) Once in, and the key in the ignition, the car started fine (without the jump battery) and the locking and unlocking is now fine, so that rules out interference that can happen on these. It was like the BCM had a brain fart that needed resetting.

Our thoughts is that everything may be electrically related - even the trannie fault, but not sure how this could happen. The trannie was rebuilt not long ago by the way.

It is being towed to a Land Rover independant tomorrow, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has had anything similar happen, or thinks they may know the issue.

I will post back the results from the Mechanic. But in the mean time - any ideas?

    Cheers - Gav

I had a similar issue and it was just that the battery clamps had a slightly poor connection, mine was the opposite though - couldn't lock doors, rather than locked out.

I'd check that out - mine literally came offer the terminal without undoing the nuts.

Thanks.. We did check all that today once we got back in it. All terminals were tight, but we removed them, cleaned everything but still no drive...

The engine has always cranked quickly and starts easily so the battery isn't a suspect ATM. The wiring is however.

Given the auto has been rebuilt recently it might be worth checking the wiring. If the auto has no drive it would suggest none of the auto solenoids are activating.

There is a round black plug on the passenger side above the selector switch that carries the signals to the solenoids. I'd check to see if that was plugged in correctly.

The fact that the ECU isn't showing an m&s fault could also indicate the auto ECU is not getting power or earth is not solid.

    Cheers
    Paul
