Cooper S/T 100k so far !!!

Just for anyone who is interested, the old man has got over 100,000 k's on his Cooper S/T 245/75 on his 95 disco. Quite a lot of that has been towing a tandem trailer loaded to the hilt with gear and crappy dirt roads in western N.S.W. and up into Queensland. Puncture wise he has only had a couple and one of those was a nail he picked up somewhere. Doubt if a couple of the tyres would pass a roadworthy now, but he has another set ordered from the dealer in town here. will post the final mileage when he gets the new ones on.

Cheers
Gaz

Sounds good Gaz, Ive had mine for 40k now and I reckon I might have another 20K before I get rid of them just due to the fact they wont be much chop after that in the bush. Having said that I have managed to pick up two brand new ones for $140 each. Always looking for guys who have gone up in size on thier tyres. Suprising how many dont rotate the spare.

Regards
Rob

S/T stands for Sure Trac. They are about the same price as BFGs $200+ depending on size. They are an agressive A/T to M/T but are quite quiet on the tar. I know a couple of blokes with them fitted and they reckon they are pretty good. The mate fitted them prior to a 10 week Kimberly trip and his dad has had them on his 80 series cruiser for a couple of years and done the Simpson, Cape, Gulf and the Kimberly. They are a bit chipped but still have heaps of tread and no punctures. I've got a set of Cooper A/T lite trucks on my Disco, done 40k still have heaps of tread and seem ok as well.

Hi shaun, thanks for the clarification, the whole tyre jargon and lingo takes some getting used to. Either way they sound good and when i kill the desert duelers that were on my disco when i bought it i will most definitely look at the coopers. Matt

yeah, Cooper S/Ts seem to be pretty good from what i have read.
Cooper STTs are the Mud Terrain, which would be a good set.

i have Michelins that came on my rangie, i dont use the rangie everyday, so they seem to be takin ages to wear, but im pretty set on a bunch of Cooper S/Ts for the replacement.

I've been running Kumho 215/85R16 on my RR. They've done between 100K-120K km and are just about due for replacement. In fact one tyre busted a steel belt (still stayed up- but out of balance) so I had to get a new tyre last week. I decided to replace an axle set (2 tyres) and have gone to Sumitomo SL 850. I'll get another 2 tyres next month (spreading the cost). The Kumho cost me about $145 ea 4 years ago, the Sumitomos are $165ea. I find that keeping them inflated to 60psi greatly extends life and performance on tyres.

The RR is used daily, it's been Melb - WA a few times and does a little towing and some gravel and off road every year. Covers about 30K km p/a.

Coopers = Great tyres. Will be replacing the standard tyres on the Defender with the ST's when needed. My lady wants the STT's because they look hot. I wanted the AT's, however because the Landy's her daily driver, I've had to compromise with her. The ST's are also covered by the 80k warranty.
I've yet to hear a bad report about the Coopers, apart from price. Yet when you take into consideration the tyre life and off road ability, what else comes close?

I'm wearing Bridgestone A/T Duelers. Done about 50,000 on them and still good for another 20 or 30 thou. I'm very happy with the performance from them so far. Spare still hasn't been on the car and no punctures. I did look at Cooper ST's when I bought the Bridgestones and had heard nothing but excellent reports about them. At the time, they were a little out of my price range but will surely choose them next time around.
