I asked my local tyre dealer about the triangle tyres last time I was there after seeing a rim/tyre package with them. He said that they were dirt cheap but actually not that bad. I live in Kununurra in the kimberley and he said a few of the local station owners had been running them and found them OK. From memory (and this was twelve months ago) I think a 10R15 was only about $135 compared to the same size in bridgestone being close to $200. I am by no means a tyre expert, and I guess it depends what you are using them for. He said that they were being used on bull catchers on the stations and seemed to be doing ok running around in the scrub.
and therein lies your answer - at $130 if you hole one it doesnt matter as opposed to putting a hole through $200 to $250.....
Im one for tyring a new thing and having worked in the industry i know that some tyres are re badged premium brands or old molds or made to a price - like Olympic overlander. Even some chinese brands like double coin - the factory was set up by Dunlop and because the labour is cheap they have top quality equipment manufacturing process - find out a little more about them - if a tyre company cant tell you then dont buy them.
Tyre shops aim for about 30% gross grofit, so bear that in mind when you buy tyres - on premium tyres they dont usually get near that so the bring the Gross up with cheap brands.....if ya catch my drift.
i was just down at my tyre shop and found out a new 4wd tyre is only about 12 months away. it is "wanli" brand name. i have been using their standard tyres on my vans now for a few years and havnt had any problems with them.
today he had a whole range in his shop and was fitting a 235/35/18
to one of his own cars so they must be a decent tyre. a lot cheaper than name brands but i guess name brands gotta start somewhere. this could
be the start of one. they are selling plenty overseas and especially in the
states. he went and met and had lunch with the head honcho of the company and asked him why they dont copy the bf goodrich tread.
they then did a bit of research and decided to start manufacture the popular sizes for 4wds. they are in the process of building a new plant
bigger than their current and will start manufacturing there. should be 11
months from now as he was discussing all this about a month ago.
i would like to know if anyone else has heard of this brand or had any
experience with it, good or bad.
the brand again: WanLi
ive got a year to research.
