    300Tdi VNT fitted

I recently had an Allisport VNT fitted to my 300Tdi auto D1. The eccentric control cone was essentially "maxed out" at the maximum position and there is no smoke and very low EGTs. Boost was ~17psi and power a little disappointing.

So I've gone one step further and broken the tamper collar off the Jesus screw at the back and turned up the fuel more, but what is freaking me out a little is no matter how far I turn it, the VNT seems to just make more boost and burns cleanly. I've taken it 1/2 a turn in 1/8 turn increments and it's making ~20psi with no smoke and comfortably safe EGTs.

How do I know when enough fuel is enough??

It's definitely well beyond the performance of my 3.9 V8 Disco...

That is how VNT is supposed to work. You'll have to cap boost at a point you're happy that the head will stay put.

How much max boost do you have at say 1500 and 2000rpm now? What gearbox do you have behind it?

Cheers Dougal. I might call it at 20 psi then.

    1500 rpm its doing around 8psi. 2000 it 15. 3000 its pushing 20.

Gearbox is a ZF4HP22... torque converter now feels annoyingly slippy with all this newfound power.

Yes the torque converter is supposedly the weak link. I'll be fixing my 300Tdi auto rrc at some stage and that's the part that worries me. An R380 could be on the cards.

Any chance of a dyno run?,I'd like to see what extra grunt the VNT gets across the board. Pat

I'm considering it but I should have had one done on the old turbo for comparative purposes. The difference in ordinary driving is very noticeable though. Couldn't give it a good test as it's been wet and the wheel spin was diabolical.

",,,It's definitely well beyond the "performance" of my 3.9 V8 Disco..."

Not difficult... the Buick was a lemon from the drawing board onwards.

Drove a tD5 powered Classic LSE carrying a massive roof-rack, and the driveability was Heaven-on-a-stick compared to my 3.9 shorty Classic.
At almost half the fuel guzzled...

They can deliver with the right mods. This one has high compression heads and a different cam:
