    Aux Battery Cabling

I am about to mount my aux battery in the rear of my D2.

Looking for options as to where to run the cable(6 B&S) from front to rear, I have an idea to run it inside the chassis rail.

Anyone done it or can anyone give me reasons why this would not be a good idea?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

If you don't secure the cable and it can flop about then it will eventually chaff thru, as long as you can tie it down every 300 mm or so then you can run it inside the channel.
Also the bits from the welding are not cleaned up inside the rails, so there may be some sharp points here and there.
I had mine cable tied to the centre side of the drivers side chassis rail with no problems for at least 8 years. From memory was able to hitch onto the steel brake lines here and there. Avoid the fuel lines and ACE (if you have any) as these get hot.

    Cheers Glen

I ran my sheathed twin cable on top of the RH chassis rail cable tied to the wiring harness which also takes this route. It fits snugly here and is easily accessible as well as out of harms way.

Why not run it through conduit?

Whether I run it inside or outside the chassis I plan to have it in some plastic tubing for extra protection.

I will probably run it outside. Was just toying with the idea as caravan manufacturers run cables don the chassis.

If you had your cable down the centre along the side how did you stop it eventually moving down?

Depends on what your definition of large is. And the battery can pull at least 50 amps if discharged enough. Recommended cable size is 6 b&s which in my book is not small.

Not quite sure what you mean. I am fitting a second battery to the rear.

I will probably run an Anderson plug to the external rear on the tow bar for plugging in solar or charging caravan batteries.

My alternator is 120 amps. How do I tell it to only put 10 amps into the yellow top?

    Quote from their website.
    Recommended charging information:

    Alternator:

    • 13.65 to 15.0 volts, no amperage limit.

I thought you just adding a power socket.
