Diary of TDI Conversion - Day 8 paint the chassis

    G'day Guys,

Had abit of a slow day today - but managed to get most of the chassis painted in the GMH chassis black - not bad at $30 for 4 litres.

I seem to have spent more time getting my spray gun working than spraying - didn't fully clean it the last time I used it, that will teach me. But at least now I understand the interal workings of a spray gun!!!

Well here is the completed chassis:

I'm still surprise how good this 18 year old chassis is - should last another 20+ years now.

Couldn't have asked for a more perfect day to spray outdoors - 25c / sunny / low humidity

    G'day Mate,

I was going to the Royal Easter show, but as today was such good weather I thought I'd get ahead of my plans, just in case the weather turns again.

I don't actually show them, just own them, and our breeder enters them into shows and he presents them for us. She came 5th out of 9 - which by all accounts was a good result, as they are usally stitched up before the event

    G'day Matt,

wasn't interested in gal for this one - don't forget its a 1987 chassis with a bit of surface rusting. I will also slosh some fish oil around inside the chassis rails for a weekend trip!!!

As people keep telling me, in Aus you don't need to gal the chassis - they last forever anyway. The proof is in my 18 year old chassis which was like new under the dirt / grease / surface rust - ask Damo and his misses, they helped clean it down yesterday

The final result is as good as, if not better, than the 1997 Disco chassis and a damn fine building block for future projects!!! I'm just finalising the designs of the Ute conversion I will do AFTER the D100 is on the road 8O

Euros go for the gal chassis as they sometimes use salt on the roads, thus corrosion.

The side fence looks good in chassis black too. LOL

I was waiting for someone to say that!!!

But its actually carbon from the V8 exhaust in the RR - I used to park it down there and when I start up spray the fence with black deposits!!!

Whereas the black stripes on the side lawn, yes that is GMH chassis black - I will cut the grass before the misses gets back!!!

I'd never get Stacey to do that. Youv'e done well damo, a girlfriend who likes getting their hands dirty.

No worries LRH, just wondering. Does anyone know how much it would cost to galvanise a chassis in Aus, has anyone done it? I am desperate to get hold of a series II or III SWB to do up when marcos is old enought to help and i want to do a ground up resto, just looking for ideas for problems early. Matt
