For a weekend play vehicle i would consider the chinese lockers you mention, however not for a daily driver or touring vehicle.
Look at Ashcroft lockers. They also have the best solution for a p38 diff which you have in the rear.
Hi all,
Im new to forums but here goes,
Im looking at diff locks (front and rear) for my 2011 Defender. Ive been told that alibaba (a wholesale international parts webstore) has the same diff locks almost if not exactly as ARB. One air locker, with an air compressor, all the works and jerks, for around $400 each straight from the manufacture. My question is, has anyone else other than a mate of mine had anything to do with them? and, Has anyone got an idea on what part numbers I need, Im pretty sure one at least is an RD128 same part number as ARB funny enough, but im not sure if the second air locker is the same or not (id assume it is), Ive looked on the net with no luck yet as to definite part numbers. Its a 2011 TD4 puma, 2.4L, Thanks in advance!
Andy

Also plan to budget for half shafts and CVs. It gets pricey and you should decide if you really need them first. A rear gets you 90% of the way there.
I've got one in my weekend Toy Zook.... Works fine other than the usual issues with all Air Lockers - Leaky seals. I've got ARB seals in mine when I 1st installed it, but after a couple of years it's started to leak as well..... I'm not worried as I don't use it that much as I rely on the Front Autolocker to assist in getting through most tracks....
Do a search here. I remember one thread were the guy did I real life, no nonsense reveiw after fitting the cheapies. IIR he was very happy with the results. I believe that was a defender too but not sure of age. You might find the part numbers there.
I,m sure the part numbers are ARBs so if you check the ARB catalogue that 'should' give you the answers you need.
I've got F/R air lockers in mine and have run Standard axles and CVs with no problems. I use mine for touring and towing the CT. But agree that if I did a big lap I would consider HD axles and CVs.
I really don't know that the cheapies are crap, but it's not the measure of a locker to pull you further into the ****, but rather to get you out. And then do again, and again! I know they are expensive but have a look the the Ashcroft lockers. They are getting excellent reviews. (I have ARB.) the Ashcrofts seem very good price wise also.
You won't regret lockers if you do any amount of off-roading. Good luck which ever way you choose.
alright sweet thanks fellas, is there any others anybody can recommend. Im more into touring but I also like to go out and play as well. It is my daily driver so reliability is a must, Ill look into the Ashcroft locker, might have to wait for the aussie dollar to pick back up but hahaha. thanks fellas
I'm not sure if they are available for Defenders yet but try TJM, and Harrops E-Locker. E-Lockers are sold though Oppisite lock.
Have chinese locker in the front of my TD5 defender
So far it has been trouble free
Cost was about $600 with compressor etc a few years ago
Hi Andy,
Other options would be the Maxidrive ones if MR are still making them. I have them in the F/R of the County. I did look at them when I got the 2010 Defender but just never got around to it. I know you can still get the axles as I talked to one of the 4x4 supplies in Brisbane a couple of months ago and they gave me a quote for them with drive flanges.
Depending on what you are using it for I found the traction control reasonable good once you get used to how they operate, not as good as the County with the F/R lockers but good enough for most obstacles unless you want to go extreme off-road.
I also toyed with the idea of an ATB (and Detroit locker) for the defender to work in conjunction with the traction control but just never got around to it.
So there are a couple of other option from ARB/Ashcroft and E-lockers and have probably caused you the same issue that I have is what to do, but as I said the Traction control works reasonable well unless you want to do the extreme driving and you would then also want to do axles, CV's and flanges.
If you have time 2nd Monday of every month the Land Rover owners club of Brisbane has it meeting and you will find people there who have most types fitted if you want to have a look and talk to the people who have them.
Richard
