    300Tdi injection pump

    Hi All,

    Daphne (300Tdi) Discovery's injection pump needs to come off - it's leaking like a sieve.

    RAVE is pretty clear about how to go about it but the diagram showing the steel bracket at the back of the pump is clearly drawn without an air-con compressor in place. So is the go to struggle with getting to the bracket bolts with the compressor in place? Or unbolt the compressor and move it as far out of the way as the hoses will allow?

    The manual shows a special tool (LRT-12-045) to clamp the pulley in place while the pump is removed. Any reason I can't make something suitable from some flat steel with holes drilled to suit?

    Definitely make your own retaining bracket out of some plate
    Check the timing after you change out the pump though.

    And definitely move the AC as far as possible to give some breathing space

    You can get at the 3 bolts with the compressor in place. The one on the left can be accessed with an extension.

    You can use a plate but the tool is better as it clamps the pulley more effectively.

    Pump off it's much easier to change the big o-rings.

    Thanks very much for the good info. I should have thought to search on the special tool number to find your post, Steve.

    I'll let you know how it goes. Could be a while yet as I have to get Leo the SIII 109's gearbox back in so we have one vehicle in driveable condition.

    Hi Pat,

    The current leak is from the distributor head. I replaced the throttle shaft bush/seal and top cover seal in-situ about 12 months ago and that's still OK.

    I have new o-rings/seals for the dist head but from the fitting notes it seems it's nearly impossible to do in-situ.

    Some days it's ok, others.....

    I've been putting it off, too much other stuff to do in the last eight months.

    It will dry out when you don't drive it.

    I've just done this with pump out. It is faster and easier than faffing about with mirrors, tape, etc. I used the genuine Buna and it worked fine.

    Hi All,

    Had another look at this job this arvo.

    I can get to the two bolts & nuts attaching the rear of the pump to the steel bracket. I can get to the top two of the bolts securing the bracket to the engine. Stuffed if I can get to the lower bracket to engine bolt, even with a 1/4" drive socket, long extension reaching under the pump body, with or without a uni-joint.

    BUT, do I really have to loosen the three bracket to engine bolts? The manual say to just loosen these three before removing the pump. After bolting the pump flange back on to the front cover, loosely fit the two rear bracket bolts and nuts, tighten the three bracket to engine bolts and then tighten the two rear bracket to pump bolts and nuts.

    So, if the bracket has been bolted to the engine in the right place for the last 300,000+ km, why do I need to disturb it at all? Can't I just remove the rear bracket bolts & nuts and the flange nuts and remove the pump after clamping the drive pulley? And reverse to refit?

    Please let me know if I'm missing something fundamental here.
