    Locker vs LSD in the front.

    I've got the option of running either in the front of the p38.
    It's already got a locker in the back, and ultimately traction would be best with the locker in the front, but one needs to be fairly selective when to use it.

    Would anyone see any reasons to run the lsd over a locker?

    Running a locker in the front of a full time 4WD would cause very strange steering effects.
    I would recommend a torque biasing geared differential like an Ashcroft or Quaife.

    I have had a Quaife in the front of a RRC with a Maxidrive rear and it was great, as it hardly affected steering but provided great traction .

    I had a brain fart and thought you were talking a constant locker like a Detroit but a selectable locker could be good. However it is one more thing to worry about and sill IMHO an auto LSD is a better option with very few downsides and good upsides.

    I agree, I wouldn't have a locker in the front diff. An atb or lsd, yes. Years ago up in the NT on a bush track near Borroloola I came across a couple of blokes in a Nissan Patrol who had run into a tree on a corner. They had lockers in both axles and had them engaged even though there was nothing that would have stopped a dunnydoore and when they went to turn a bend in the track the Patrol kept going straight ahead into the tree. They both needed to change their nappies!!

    I have only ever had air operated lockers in the front . Honestly they have a switch for a reason when not needed turn it off that easy . I have never had dramas like some have stated as i simply use it for a rough section then turn it off .
    A rear locker can also reduce steering responce in greasy conditions
    My personal choice is air lockers front and rear as you have the ability to turn them off and on anytime that suits. Realy its inexperience that caused the drama that Bearman mentions

    Agree.......never experienced issues having front and rear air lockers, I don't reckon it's as bad as most make out.

    Yes they have a switch/s, I didn't bother but a mate changed the standard wiring so that he could select the front locker on its own.

    I made my own loom for that exact reason. But in saying that the rear is the most used

    I would have thought an LSD in the front would cause harder than normal steering?
    I have air lokka in my front. Positive IN and positive OUT.
