Changing tyres while in the bush

Anyone used one of these? looks like a simple design to make yourself

Makes it look easy. I've attempted to change a 235/75/16 tyre once and it was a struggle - three blokes just using tyre levers.

I used to use something very similar at a workshop around 35 years ago. It's easy enough. BUT, how do you break the bead? You'll either need a slide hammer, or you can sometimes get lucky by driving over the tyre with your forby, which is difficult if it's up on a jack. I suppose a high lift jack might do it, but I've never tried, and it could be dangerous I guess.

Then you have to think about popping the tyre back onto the bead.

Still, seems like a good idea.

You can get a tyre back on with your feet and a rubber mallet as well.

I think you'll find the center post needs to be firmly mounted which makes it more suited to low volume workshop applications.

    tyre pliers
    R&R bead breaker
    slide hammer
    gympie and a brass drift
high lift jack as a compresion tool
high lift jack under a truck
walking around the sidewall with boots on stepping near the rim as a puddle of liquid hand soap and water works its way past the bead.

    that gets the bead broken

2 (3 is easier) gets the tyre off sometimes with a little help from a rubber mallet..

seatings easy. shooter tank, or areostart and a match.

sometimes tyre soap, hand cleaner, conditioner and a normal compressor is just enough.

Breaking the bead is simple using a highlift jack. Inflating the tyre that is off the bead is also easy using a strap around the tyre and removing the valve so that maximum air gets into the tyre quickly. Having a large volume air compressor on board also helps (like the twin motor ARB setup)

Trying to fit a 235/75/16 stiff side wall tyre onto a landrover wheel is impossible just using your feet and a rubber mallet - no matter how much lube you use. Took myself and two mates over two hours trying to do this in 35 degree heat and that was with tyre levers as well.

I am looking for something simplistic to use in the bush and after looking at the Youtube clip, the Tyre Pliers bull bar mounted kit looks every effective and also compact.

Much to the annoyance of my neighbours...I'll be getting out the grinder and welder and fabbing up something similar myself
