FWIW, Redline MTL (75W-80, 10.5-11cSt @100*C) is the directly comparable lube to MTF94 vs MT90 (75W-90, 14.5cSt @100*C)
Currently running a 60/40 brew of MTL/MT90
Well they may well be.
Having read mucho discussion re the R380 lubricants & noticing a whining from the box last weekend, I decided to replace the LR initially recomended TQF for some Redline MT-90.
Nearly a week on, & I am glad to report that it's much quieter, no whining & gear selection is so much easier, especially that old reverse gear 'block' that mostly always seems to occur when you don't want it to, as well as usually first thing in the morning. It slips in & out quite nicely, thank you very much.
No crunching has been noticed at all & it certainly feels more 'positive' when selecting gears. A bit hard to define, but it's certainly mucho better.
I contacted the Caltex Fuel Depot & while the MTF-94 is less expensive, the minimum buy is 20 litres & so I decided to go with Redline. Plus, it's a nice colour.
Redline was off the shelf, & it wasn't convenient to travel to the Stealership to buy a small quantity of 2.6 litres.
Just my input.

That's what I said, Rick. MT-90. ^ ^ ^
Actually, it was some of your posts I found in Search that persuaded me.
I heard something i had never thought of the other day . Oil companies put UV dye in their oils - so that if a particular oil is recommended for a vehicle it can be seen under UV light if that oil has been run - therefore influenceing (possibly) any warranty decision, that being said they would most likely be able to tell which oil had been run due to its particular "DNA".
Like a product we are trialling at the moment - clear lacquor with a chemical DNA that can be read by a computer - has been developed for the copyright protection industry, so with the wave of a special scanner / reader companies will be able to tell it that is really their t shirt, jeans, cd, dvd, ps game, etc etc etc - and its good at up to 5000degrees c !
Yeah... I've never really understood why you guys can't get MTF-94 by the litre?? I buy it in the UK by the litre & I could get it in NZ by the litre but not in Oz?
The main dealers would have 25gal drums of it and I did find that if I asked them nicely, they were happy to change it for me for the cost of the oil.

I've also bought it from the dealer by the litre, but Syntrans and R/L MTL last longer (no VII's to shear) and IMO shift better.Originally Posted by camel_landy

I just buy 20L of the stuff i have had the drum since i bought the car and just use it when i need it, i change my transmission oil every 20000km now anyway. MattOriginally Posted by camel_landy
