If not, it will be easy to add. I know that DieselGas Technologies modify alternators from other marques to add the W terminal so that they get a better tacho signal for the LPG computer they fit.

Tachos for TD5s generally plug into the ECU, or some other electronic gizmo and as such are a very expensive addition (from what I've been told). I suppose a W terminal and a regular tacho would be a good economic alternative.

thats why im doing it this way!

i have the part number for the aftermarket VDO tach (says VDO not td5)
it exists on the vdo website but vdo aust cant get it for some reason?? the kit is 90pounds in the uk, so doing it this way is way cheaper... i hope...

and if it isnt i'll sell it to some one with a 200-300tdi.

No idea. It is a bugger to get to. Even with my inlet manifold off it seems annoying to get at.

Hey Phil,Coopers sell the Td5 tacho for $270,so I'd reckon that after you pay for the tacho($223.33),it's gunna cost you more doing it this way

    i reckon not!
    know why???

the tacho from vdo thats supposed to only drive off a coil or the w terminal WORKS OFF THE TACH SIGNAL WIRE AT THE ECU!!!

tested it last night and its spot on! leave all 3 switcher on the off position.

    so i got a tacho in a TD5 for $140!!!

    yay for me

    td5 alternator

    Discowhite

When trying to get my tacho to work (2000 td5) in my series 1 disco, result was to remove the alt and drill a hole in the side of the case for the wire from the ecu , fitted to the W pole, first I had the back of the alt removed( still on the disco) to see if there was a W connection, this was done by a auto electrican, the reason was because of the way the td5 was rewired for the original tacho, (v8)
