    Td5 Power Loss

Heading to work this morning going up a hill trucks taking up all three lanes
side by side doing about 20khr. I get a gap to go around the one in the left lane drop back to 2nd and give it a boot full and it coughs and splutters like it is starving for fuel. Runs ok when not under heavy load.
Asked my mechanic and he said it sounds like the wire loom on the injectors.
    Is this a costly fix

Check the turbo hoses. They can soften with oil/age & can suck in under acceleration.

Check the ecu wiring connector under the seat for oil. Not a dear fix, replace the injector wiring harness about $135. The oil can be cleaned out of the engine wiring harness, this harness is significantly dearer and a lot more involved to replace. Keep the old injecto harnes, flood it with contact cleaner and then replace the o rings, seal up the harness with good silicone and keep as a spare.
Mine is a 2000 model and the new one I replaced it with that is supposed to be the cure to all this is identical. I seriously do not believe that they could make one that would not suffer from this problem after a prolonged period as the o rings will wear eventually through vibration.

    Td5 Power loss.

    Hi Bigmac.
That sounds the same as what recently happened to my Defender 110 Td5 and it turned out to be the Throttle Potentiometer. I had first thought it was dirty fuel as I'd topped up from someone elses jerry but it was such a sudden "missing" I then thought it may be electrical.
Checked all electrical connections including the loom into the ECU but no problems with any of it.
Got it back to Perth and to the after market service people and it cost around $500 to be Testbook checked and rectified.
I've found out since that someone else I know who had a Td5 Disco had exaclty the same symptoms.
He now drives a BC 4.2 Nissan and is much happier!
I'm thinking that might be the way to go.

Could also be the turbo waste gate control valve.
It could also be air mass metre or could be oil in the harness has damaged the air mass metre.
