The oil on oil for Disco V8

    Hi All,

Just wondered what engine oil everyone is using in their V8 Disco's.

Whats so good about the oil you use and what does it costs?

I thought it would be interesting to see the results.

Last change I used Fauks full sythmethic GTO 10w-30 as I had some left over from my sedan. It is pricey at $40 for 5 litres a couple of years ago and heard it has gone up heaps over the last 12 months.

I ran Castrol Magnatec 10w which was their recommendation according to the Castrol Lube guide. It was also their recommendation for the Td5 engine which was nice but still felt rough. So as an experiment I changed to Penrite 5w diesel and it transformed the car. It is magic now, smooth and you don't feel the roughness of it all.

As long as you follow the oil makers recommendations try the different oils until you find one you are happy with.

    Cheers.

I heard a few bad stories about Magnatec when I was using it, that made me go off it. Heard from a couple of machanics that it kill a few hillclimbing cars. They then started to use fauks. Might be just a sales pitch.

I thought I would start the tread to see what most popular oil is for the v8 disco and its costs. thanks for the info

Being an old tech design they arent very fussy with oil, i usually just get what ever is in a 6ltr bottle. If its done a lot of k's (200+) then Penrite HPR50 cant be beat. The penrite 5w diesel sounds like the go.

    I use Mobil 1 5w-50 in my 3.9 Rangie.
The USA Guru on the web swears by it. On the other hand The RPI owner says don't use it in a V8. Go figure.

I like it, and it has quick oil pressure rise when cold which should mean less wear. the USA guy says that he has seen many engines survive loss of oil after say failure of a cooler pipe, compared to engines destroyed with mineral oils.
On the other hand , it finds every bloody leak place.
With only inlet teflon seals, and none on exhaust mine uses about 500Cc for 3000Km.
    Regards Philip A.
