Cannot Remove Tie Rod Ends - Help!

Hi All,

Trying to do the Tie Rod Ends on my D1. Have removed the Drag Link (I think, the one behind the front diff) but for the life of me i cannot unscrew the dodgy Tie Rod Ends that are currently on. Have loostened the Clamp Bolts but cannot get the Tie Rod Ends to unscrew. Any suggestions? Dont want to crush the Drag Link trying to clamp it down to get them to turn. Have used WD40 and a pair of multi grips but neither are budging. Help........

Am i going to crush the tube if i apply too much pressure on it? Where is the best place to grip the Drag Link and Tie Rod End? Just dont want to break anything else while i am trying to actually fix something. Should i put it in a vice and then use multi grips or Stilsens (had to look up what these were so will need to go a get them if required) to turn the Tie Rod End?

Grab closest to the ends ie near the welds, also give the threads a tap either side with two hammers, not belt the hell out of it just to try and break the treads.

Are you aware one end is RH thread & the other is LH thread?

Could you be trying to undo in the wrong direction?

apply heat from a hot air gun or gentlly with an oxy type torch to the tube only, on top of where the threads are.

clamp one tie rod end in the vice and use a huge stilson on the other tie rod end. Apply brute force to the rod ends only while rewarming the bar...

If that doesnt work up end the bar into a tin of dieso over night and have a crack in the morning

Thanks All, will give it all a good go in the morning. I think its actually the track rod. All the Tie Rod Ends appear to be Right hand thread, with the Track Rod Adjuster being the left hand thread component. Either way both ends are not turning in either direction

Another excellent penetrator for stuck threads is brake fluid.Works a treat,avoid getting it on paintwork.

Yep im with dave soak it overnight would do both ends tho with inox lanotech give both ends and the adjuster a good squirt and have a crack the next day i had same probs with my rangie and couldent move em with stilsons bothe about 18 inches long let em soak overnight and hay presto the moved in the morning with big stilsons good luck

Thanks all for your help and suggestions. Still no joy unfortunately

Have them soaking again tonight and will give it one last try in the morning. Might have to upgrade to heavy duty items

......just so i dont have to get these bloody ones apart
