Whats the go with Elec Window's?

    G'Day All,
Just wondering whats the go with our Disco rear Elec windows ........Ive found they dont want to move unless the car is moving....do they have some kind of speed cen and only lets you move windows when above a speed? ie like the ABS light go's out when above 8kph????

I know when I bought the car there was a problem with rear windows and it was a RWC issue, just not sure if its "The Way It is" or maybe a prob with switch's or wire's etc

    Any ideas please?

No, long as the ignition is on the windows should work.

I had an issue with my D1, and it was the switches. Took them off cleaned the terminals - use a pair of tweezers to make them 'tighter' after that they were ok.

What happens when you use the switches at the back - same thing ?

have you tried it with the engine at high idle?

Ive seen a commodore with a similar problem where the drop in available voltage was causing the kiddie lock thing for the windows to drop off disabling the rear windows and door locks.

My drivers rear does the same thing, but it stopped working after i took it for a swim at stockton. I wasnt going down at all but it has now started to drop slowly, but mine does the same thing moving or stopped. My guess is with your the vibration or movment of the vehicle helps the window drop, do they go up ok? Matt

I had the same problem and was helped out by a forum member.

It was the window relay behind the glove box.

    Check out this site.

Thanks for feedback.....Ive got a feeling it may be the switch's, I will clean up and see. Its just a pain when I go out and put the rear windows down a bit and get where Im goig and cant put them up again.

Someone asked about if the rear door switch's work with ing on....no they dont work either.

    Question

Can these lectrickery things be changed to manual winders? They seldom give any bother.

I have a vague memory of an American comedian and electric windows. Along the lines of whirr, whirr, weee smash.

The control ECU for the electric windows in situated behind the glovebox compartment.
It is common for the sloder to detach on the the circuit board posts.
Remove the card and resolder the ends .
It can be an intermittant fault. One monment not working then go ovew a bump and the get contact again
