    Lighting upgrade.

My Christmas/New Year project is to get the lighting on the Disco sorted out.

Today I recieved the Combo Driving light/headlight upgrade kit for Traxide.

What can I say... WOW... great clear instructions - all quality components - every thing I will need except the bloke to install it! Thanks Tim - great kit.

Over the next few days I plan to install this and a set of IPF 9000 lights I picked up off eBay.

I'll post some pics once I am finished.

Looking around under the bonnet for a good place to mount the 2 New Era Relays...

Certainly pretty tight for space around the battery

So far I think I might mount them on the front panel just behind the drivers side headlight - seems more space in there that the actual engine bay. ( but not as well protected..)

Anyone already fitting a kit like this to a DII ?

If so .. where did you mount the relays?

    Hi Mark
I ditched the jack(now keep it in the back) and put them in there.Makes for a very easy wiring job.I fitted the 2 relays to a piece of 50x50 alum angle wich is bolted to one of the bolts below where the jack lives.
The Mrs has the camera up in Perth at the moment, will see if I can find a pic on the computer.

On my disco I, I fitted both relays, side by side on the front of that panel, driver's side above the openings to the rear of the headlight. Bonnet closes with a little room to spare.

I mounted the relays upside down, so the fuses were at the top and the hot wire was somewhat protected below the relay. I haven't had an opportunity to use the lights on bad roads/tracks yet, to see if high vertical accelerations cause a problem with the relay contacts.

    Well it's done..

I'll put some Pics up later tonight - so I can give you some before and after pics.

Great instructions and really an easy job... it took me about 4 hours - but that is mainly cause I was being fussy about a neat job - and deciding where to run cables etc.

Because I don't have ACE.. I have spare spave inside the Battery/Jack box - so that is where I located the relays. I drilled a hole through the bottom and ran the split tube straight up into it... keeping everything really neat.

Pretty happy with how it came up... also fitted some IPF 9000 lights...

So I'm looking forward to it going dark

    Good job Mark.
Obviously the V8s ECU is in a different location, thats the TD5s ECU in my pics where you have located your relays.Good thing about having them there is the battery cover hides the lot
PS them V8s look like they run a small battery, that CAT battery Ive got fills the hole nicely.

Pardon the crappy photography, and as usual reality is brighter than the photos. ( note to self.... don't lean on a running car to take photos )

The following shots show the diffference it makes putting a decent loom upgrade in. I did not change globes, all the changes you see are a direct result of the kit. (except the driving lights shot - I added a pair of IPF 9000's at the same time I fitted the Traxide combo loom upgrade kit )

    Before Upgrade Low Beam:

    After Upgrade Low Beam:

    Before Upgrade Hgh Beam:

After Upgrade High Beam: (This looks brighter in reality that the photo shows..)

    After Upgrade Driving lights:

A day well spent I'd say

    Thanks again Drivesafe...

The Battery is an Exide Extreme N70ex.....

I guess I know who to call for a jumpstart in WA then..

Thanks for your help Andy... without your photo I doubt I would have located the relays there.... worked out really neatly.

Now I have important work to do....
