    Angry Power Steering For Series

Well after borrowing a power steering box from a toyota 60 series & making all the mesurements & double checking them & it looks so simple to do .pius i sorted it all out with the engineer cause now i have to put the crush tubes in & plate both sides i thought i would have to remover the front crossmember but the engineer said just notch it for the bolts so thats suits me just fine & he is happy for me to join the toyota shaft to the landrover steering colum as long as its strong & safe..So i thought i better ring the wreckers where i borrowed the box & get a price for it as i never asked when i picked it up..Well i tell you i nearly swore at him $670 just for the box so when i got me self up off the floor i just left it there.after seeing one on ebay that sold for $120 that was including the pipes, pump, box & shaft i have started looking elswhere so if anyone knows where i could get one for around this price please let me know even if its just the power steering box for that price i will be very happy..i am so over doing the rust in the passenger side of the bulkhead it would be nice to have a change & start on the steering although the rust is nearly done i have just had enuff for now..anyone got any ideas on the box.....

In another thread on fitting P/S to a Series I mentioned of an outfit in Texas that does a kit for them .......and I seem to recall a price around US$400 [ AU$570 ] , thats a lot better than $2000 [A$ / Stg. Pds.780 ]

One Aussie $ will buy 78.5 US cents today, about where it was ten years ago.... not too shabby.

Any of this gear come out of Japan? we're about 100/1 on the yen......damn side better than 48/1 of the late nineties.....

    Hi,
I have a 60's box in my car which i'll be parting out soon enough.

You can bolt them on using sandwich plates (no welding)

Cut, shut and sleeve the column and hook up to a suitable pump with a proper rod and your set.

I will be selling the lot soon.

    Dave.

Turbo4t in Sydney on and on Outerlimits4x4 forum parts LC60 and LC40 left right and centre. I've bought a lot of kit off him and his prices are usually pretty good.

Those wreckers yards are stupid if they asked a HALF sensible price they might actually sell more stuff or at least you might start to haggle but when it's 6 times what it's worth !

I walked out of a wreckers asking $90 for a rusty old steel rim, I got a brand new one from a alloy wheel dealers for $110.
