Blocked fuel filter from bad fuel?
Drives me insane sometimes. Under identical conditions, same road, same air temp, same time of day etc etc my Td5 can drive like a totally different vehicle. A re-boot, as in switching off for a minute or two can often have a remarkable effect.
Yesterday for example, driving home from work, sluggish acceleration, like it's being choked or something when you put your foot down (sort of like the symptoms in the throttle thread, but not so bad that it causes stalling). Stop for fuel, then it drives like a car possessed, instant response, pulls strongly, feels much smoother.
Going up hills it can make the difference between sitting in 5th on half throttle or having to change down and floor it to maintain the same speed.
It has been chipped (BD) but it has been doing this since nearly new, every dealer service while it was under warranty I complained about it but they always claimed they couldn't find anything wrong.
Any ideas?

Oil in the loom ?
when did the BD chip go in? from near new or recent?
if not oil-in-the-loom or fuel filter related, it has to be electronic...
Aaaah, i'm not alone then!
'99 fender, BD "half-chipped", does exactly the same - now i just live with it.
strange after filling up that it would go so much better, but i think it might be something with the cooler diesel getting into the engine?? do'nt know, but mine has all the symptoms your's have and i do'nt really have any answers![]()
This has been happening from near new, can't remember exactly. It won't be a fuel filter as that has been changed many times.
The chip went in when it was about 2 years old.
Not oil in the harness either. The head was replaced recently and that wasn't an issue.

Dirty MAF sensor or whatever it is? Poor connections to it?

Crook throttle pedal?
I'd go for the story of the starter motor upsetting the ECU. voltage surges, spikes and brownouts do wonders for computers. if its bad enough the engine wont start, but who's to say it cant throw it out of whack enough to run, but out of tune and be sluggish till the computer is rebooted again on the next startup.![]()
