dirty dwag

so what's the design idea behind installing a bonnet scoop, is is it to reduce heat dissipation by the engine ? so you effectively are pushing air downwards on op of the engine , remember in deep water crossing you will also push water on top of your engine.

What and look like a new Cruiser

I would think that the extra amount of dirt and crud entering would be an issue, deep water also (as mentioned) and anyway the main reason vehicles have a bonnet scoop is to increase airflow either into an airbox mounted at the top of the engine or across an intercooler mounted there (e.g. Patrol's, Hilux's and new Cruiser 70's).

positive engine bay pressure has some good features, but venting can make a big difference cooling wise. mate had a rangie that he vented and it made a significant difference temerature wise and he never looked back... a defender, i would have tought would leaked air all round the bonnet, why not just adjust your bonnet stops and latching pin up 5mm ? but there is the bling factor :P

Good Idea Dave, No bling for this dawg...just another thing to break as I use my bonnet as an observation post when deciding directions
I got the idea from Sith who has put a nissan one on his RRC as for the facing it will be on back wards as not to push air/water in but let hot air out,,,just a thought at this stage hence the poll

I didn't say this in my previous post, but I thought it too!

Some Countys have have a rubber seal around the lower edge of the bonnets to seal on the top of the mudguards. I assume it was for noise reduction as I've only ever seen it on 4BD1 Countys.

Yes. Also fitted to late S3 diesels (not just Isuzu).

This suggests providing extra ventilation on the bonnet will increase noise levels.

My V8 County didn't have the seals.

While it may achieve what you want, I think it will look terrible. The shape and style doesn't suit a Defender. Why not consider getting louvres pressed into the bonnet? They would suit it much better and could be positioned so that any water and mud that enters through them doesn't land on the engine.
