I decided to bite the bullet and cut the guards. While I was at it, I filmed as much as I could and got some stills. Use these pics at your own peril, this is how it worked for me but may not for you.
One of the reasons I filmed it was to share this as I have had trouble getting this info. A member from another forum helped me out with photos and found them invaluable. So heres my pics (in order of cutting the guards).
The front are straight forward jobs, but the rear doors not so easy. The key here as seen on the pics is to use the rear wheel well as the guide to cutting the doors. Once the wheel well was cut, i scribed the innner door skin. Once I cut the inner skin, I left the outer skin with enough lip to wrap over the inner skin. Any excess outer skin material was grinded off so that it was flush with inner skin. All thats left to do is sikaflex the small gap.
The the rear quater pannel was like the fronts, fairly straight forward.
For the shape of the guards, I used black tape to get an idea of what it would look like cut when standing from a distance. The use the grinder to follow the tape shape.
Before I put the flares on, I will check to make sure the 33x12.5x15 dont rub anywhere, and if so, ill trim more.
Im happy to expand on any of these pics if you need further info.
Hey mate, got some standard 50mm rubber flares ill rivet on next weekend. Yes took me a good 4 hours to do 1 door, but I wanted to do it right and get it as clean as possible (im a finiky bastard
