    Thermo fan Constantly on

    Hi All,
The other day my TD5 D2 over heated beacuse of a hole in the alloy outlet on the engine block where the temp sensor sits and beacuse of that lost a fair bit of fluid from the system but the temp sensor didn't register a overheating problem (mainly because there was no fluid only steam passing the sensor . So upon replacement of the outlet flushed out the system and replaced with antiboil/antifreeze. Now here is the problem the thermo fans are now constantly on, there are no leaks anywhere or broken head gaskets, so should I asume the computer has been tripped in some way and has put the fan on all the time, and is the only way to reset this is to take it into LANDROVER for a reset?

    Any help would be fantastic.

Oil in the injector harness will cause them to stay on, try your own reset by disconnecting the battery for 1/2 an hour, then reconnect and see if that helps.

Purge the system again, i had a similar problem and like you had the head gasket checked, there maybe still air in the system.

It could be a fault logged in the ECU, but from my experiences only 2 reasons they will be on is, air still in the system or oil in the injector harness, these are the only reasons that i know of, there maybe more but i haven't come across them as yet

    Cheers Baz.

I had to get my ECU reset after headgasket/possible overheat/oil in the ECU.
Unfortunately its a stealer/specialist task needing the rovacom computer.

Can anyone update this thread, my fans runs constantly after an overheat. Everything survived but the fan problem. No Rover techs in Kalgoorlie so I can only get it fixed if I go to Perth. Generally go the opposite way in this car.

Will the ECU clear if you disconnect the battery for a while?
    Cheers

Thanks Andy, I may just invest in one myself. 7 years old now and never had a puter plugged into it. Probably bursting at the seems with fault logs.

I seem to be suffering the reverse problem - had an overheat due to a failed hoseclip, and now my fan won't come on at all.... not too much of a problem as I don't do too much stop/start driving. Is there anyone in Brisbane other than the Land Rover dealer who has the equipment to establish if there is a fault with the fan system or whether the computer is playing silly buggers?

EDIT - after some more reading it sounds like a viscous fan problem, so will follow up on the troubleshooting on the viscous system and see what I find.
