Thread: Disco recently purchased - what to service immediately?

When I got my '96 V8 at 160,000km I did a complete service, changed spark plugs, Ht leads, Dizzy cap and ignition coil. Did all the oils as well. Checked ignition timing but it was fine.

Check the condition of the fan belt too, mine was starting to crack...

If you have a grease gun (they are quite cheap if you don't have one) check up the grease points and squirt some fresh grease in.

Oh and the hoses were a bit dried out on mine for the cruise control and things like that, so you may want to check them as well. Just the basic stuff really

Here, I'll save you a few hundred $$ - don't replace the cat convertor.

Every vehicle I've bought, I've dropped ALL oils and tuned it.
Get a RAVE CD manual and start to get a feel for how the vehicle is built.

Yep... Do all the fluids. However, don't just drop the fluids blindly into a container & dump. Instead, inspect the fluids as this will give you an indication if there's anything wrong.

Also make sure that you change all the brake fluid and all the filters (IIRC there's one in the bottom of the auto box).

If you've some spare change, I'd also look at changing the HT leads and plugs.

Then... Change all the bushes. Well, the main ones to change are the radius arms, trailing arms and panhard rod bushes.

Replace all fan and other belts and heater and radiator hoses and keep as spares, depending on when the last oil change was done on the Auto I would have it serviced, if yours has the long dipstick filler on the drivers side near rear of engine, remove the dip stick and check the colour of the oil, if it is dark red or brown and it smells burnt, replace oil and filter and what the others said, Regards Frank.

I would consider checking the front drive shaft universal joints especially at the transfer case end.Check if they have grease nipples or are the sealed variety.If so check if they move freely or are stiff or binding.If they seize up they can fail and take out the transmission.
