Interior Trim held on by Magic

OK, this is me being paranoid about breaking my new car.

I need to remove the two rear speaker panels to fit larger 6" Coax units, only the rotten piece of crap is held by a mysterious, unseen force. I have removed the three upholstery screw-plug thingys on the bottom and side but there is something holding the top which I cannot see or feel through the speaker hole.

Do I need to remove the entire rear small window trim? I hope not because this sucker is held on by rivets and I don't fancy taking to the vehicle with a drill at this early stage.

I don't want to force anything because with my luck I will surely break something. Any advice from others who have these in their rigs is welcome (Discowhite - I expect you know the answer mate).

DOUBLE SIDED TAPE (i put 2 small tek screws threw the lip to hold it all tight)
its easier to take the window cover off to get a better grip at it.
no screws on the window cover just clips, pull from the door side towards the front of the car. dont take these off to many times, the clips break, ive got 1 left on each, only had em off 4 times

    cheers phil

Thanks for that - I figured you would have done this a few times. If I only have a limited number of goes at it I will wait until I have everything I need before pulling it apart and having bits of trim scattered around the house.

    Double sided tape - pfffffhh!

Bl***y clips.........they break easily don't they? I've had the trim off once and broke 1 clip. It has to come off again soon, so I expect that will be another one broken

I'm going to be attempting this with surgical care. There is nothing that peeves me more than breaking something whilst dis-assembling or re-assembling it. How many clips are there and roughly where are they located around the edges of the trim panel?

Do you suppose that since the new trim is tucked behind the side sliding window surround that will need to come off before the rear? (I bloody hope not).

before you start pulling trims off......are the bigger speakers gonna fit.....
you dont seem to have much depth there.......it looks like you will need spacers to move the speakers out.......

if you are fitting spacers......do you still need to remove the trim......
cant you just fit the spacers to the existing holes.....?

or are you doing something different....?

I've checked the depth and it is fine - believe it or not it's 130mm.

The 6" speakers mount onto the face of the rear panel which pushes them out a few extra milimetres and I'm going to follow Discowhite's advice and fit an MDF backing to the plastic panel then pack the cavity with sound deadener.

I spent some time at the car sound place with one of the installers finding speakers with the right depth to fit.

I posted a thread about the clips for the rear trim about a month ago but got no reply. On my previous Defender Extreme they where "one way" clips that pushed on but to remove you destroyed them.
