    D2 Turning Circle

    'Morning all,

Have recently fitted the new (shorter) lock stops to our D2 and have to say that the improvement in the turning circle is outstanding. Would recommend this to all D2 owners running 16" rims. FWIW the LR part to order is FTC5151 and you need 2.

Anyway my question is about running 245/70R16 tyres with this mod. Am looking at a new set of light truck tyres sized at either 225/75R16 which would be fine or 245/70R16 which I don't know.

Does anyone run the 245's with the new lock stops? Did the tyres scrub on the radius arms?

    Thanks
    Peter

Got my new locks stops fitted after already having 245/75r16 fitted, so the lock stops were adjusted to suit. No rubbing whatsoever. A couple of washers were just added to the lockstop to give it a mm or 2 more... Best thing i've done to the rig in months, took a good metre and a bit off the turning circle.

Why didnt they do this from production. Is there any negatives if changing now?

it was to do with the 18" rims fitted to some D2's

I was told the power steering needed to be checked,,
also, a precise measurement needed to be done on each vehicle,,

there is a LR notice out on the correct proceedure

Parts cost $48.55 which included 2 x washers for $0.98ea.

I got the washers in case they were some sort of special shim or something but they are just ordinary washer approximately 1mm thick. Didn't need them.

A machine shop turning down the originals may be cheaper.... or even a hacksaw!

Thought about that but didn't know how much to chop off and not having a decent workshop or area to play in I went for the easiest approach - genuine part. Simply screw the old ones out and the new ones in and hey presto rah!

Thats a fair call. Actually, I wouldn't hacksaw them, though I would machine them down accurately. I'd remove the stop and turn the wheel lightly with the front axle on stands and the engine off to make sure there is no bind or rubbing and then give an allowance and take a stop measurement before machining.

Thats if I could be bothered...... for $50 it has removed a lot of mucking around. funnily enough I went the other way and ended up shimming my stops out. Should have done a swap hey! lol nah, it's all good now.
