There are some info here already, but I see people keep asking again and again. So here is copy/paste from "mud-club.com > Vehicle & Technical > Electronic Diagnostics > Relatively cheap Td5 diagnostic tool" (you have to register to be able to get in that particular topic)
To our admins: what do you think, will it be handy to have dedicated forum a-la Electronic Diagnostics on AULRO? Just an ideaOk so our nanocom arrived this morning......thanks to deb and jim who supplied it for us......had to go out to liverpool today, so, have just had time to have a quick play and thought id share my observations here (Yes mort they'll be plenty of pics.....
Ok so the nanocom comes in a fairly run of the mill bearmach box (it could be a tdi lift pump for what anyone would know )
![]()
And in the box you get
We have here:-
A serial Cable
An OBD cable
A CD with the software and the latest frimware for the nanocom
And of course the nanocom itself
Also available from bearmach(its listed with the nanocom) is a usb to serial adapter
Now unless your computer doesnt have a serial port you dont need to buy this adapter
Ok so weve unpacked the nanocom and gone out to the discovery(all the functions work on the defender(well those i tried this morning before we had to go out). We went to the disco because there seems to be some confusion as to whether it works or not on a discovery td5
Ok so weve plugged in to the OBD port (which as you can guess is just under the dash to the left)
Now weve plugged the nanocom into the cable
So weve gone through the menu and got to here
And bammo........
Ooooopppppssss someone forgot to turn the ignition on (you dont have to have the engine running)![]()
Ok ignition on and back to reading faults
Oooh a few faults registered here
Ok lets switch to the nanocom windows software (bear in mind any settings/reading are supposed to be available in nanocom stanalone mode or via the windows software
Lets see some numbers
Now lets give it a bit of rev
I now just need to learn what all the numbers and such mean
So in short do i think its worth the money.....you betcha....well worth every last penny....and it'll be even more of a godsend when they've sussed out the wabco slabs on the discovery
Hope it's ok with the admin that I put this post up...... or maybe it needs moving to the technical section![]()
Cheers,
Ruslan

For those people that want to know more about what all the numbers and things displayed by your diagnostics thingies and they mean have a look at this link.
ECU/Software Module Information System
From the menu on the left select "Diesel EMS" and then "LUCAS TD5(LAND ROVER)"
Or you could read your Nanocom user manuals from the website!

Looks great!!!, can it reset the "3 amigos", how much does it cost and from where do you buy it? Please!!
Hey I want one!
I am an Electronics Engineer, as it really ****es me off that I have to take my car to LR Dealer to get any sort of diagnosis of problems. I had faulty ABS wheel sensor/wiring harness problem that ended up costing me a fortune!
If ABS fault light comes on, then ABS and traction control do not function.
Initially they diagnosed faulty front wheel sensor, so replaced sensor (whole hb needs to be replaced according to landrover). Everything OK for a week, and then the ABS light on again!
Took it back and they replaced hub/sensor under warranty. Ok for about 2 weeks, and then you guessed it ABS light abgain.
This time they finally diagnosed the 'real' fault, which was intermittent wiring in harness. They simply ran wiring external to bypass wiring in harness.
All was sweet for a couple of month, and then bloody ABS light again!!!
Took it back & computer diagnosed ABS modulator failure(it actually mentioned some control valve in modulator). I want online to uK rover group and found that this ABS modulator valve failure was common.
I referred DLR Dealer to site, and within two weeks had relacement valve kit (cheap)installed instead of the entire ABS block assy approx $3K exchange!!
Where do you buy this diagnostic unit, and how much?
Can it clear faults as well as diagnosing them?
Can tool be used to remap ECU for power gain?
Cheers..B![]()

Ruslan I hope I'm not hijacking your thread

NANOCOM TD5 diagnostic tool
where to purchase them from
NANOCOM - Land Rover Defender and Discovery diagnostic system
Hmmm, they don't have climate control.
I'm waiting for approval to that forum, but do you know if that particular vehicle had a flash or non flash ECU?
I also wonder how many of those errors are apparent only when the vehicle is not running.
Cheers
