    Kings Spings & Bilsteins Shockies

    Hi All.

I had noticed that my pride and joy (2003 Disco) started to get spring sag in the rear end.

After searching throught the old threads about the topic of shockies and springs I have decided with the following (standard height):

    Kings springs
Bilsteins shockies from the USA including steering stabilizer for $615aud (thanks MOS for the link to Bilstein - KYB - Rancho - Monroe - Edelbrock Automotive Truck Shocks and Struts - Shockwarehouse.com)

Can anyone see a better setup for around the same money?

    Regards Mark

    Hi Mark,

Are you planning to fit a 2" suspension lift or going with absolutely stock spring height?

If you plan to fit taller springs, then you'll need the longer Bilsteins to match.

I tried doing this exercise, but interestingly, the places that I searched for Bilsteins in the USA did not have the part number for the shock to suit a 2" lifted Discovery Series II.

So in the end, I bought locally. I figured that by the time you add freight, etc, the savings wasn't really all that much.

I fitted on my Disco 1998 Bilstein shocks and king spring 40mm rise and for the last 70000 km is being fantastic.
Purchasing the gear from USA is the way to go providing that you make sure that each order it is not over AUD$ 1000.00
I was very impressed by the excellent gear and value for money of rovertyme.
Visit their page and sent them and email to see if they can helping you. They are a gurus in suspension and very respected world wide.
I am considering them for a lift on the Disco in the future

I will be keeping at stock height and try to improve on road (tar) handling.

I would have liked to buy locally, but got from the US as was $465AUD for 4 Billies delivered to my door, 1 week. In Aust same shockies were going to cost $900AUD plus approx $100AUD freight. The math is undeniable. The exchange rate was 92c at the time.

Yes, I've had the same problem - US Bilstein suppliers don't seem to have heard of the BE5/B994/B995 shocks for D2 with 2-inch raised coils, and I can't seem to find an email address for Bilstein head office. I'll contact Rovertym and see if they use them; otherwise will have to source locally. Interesting that OME are more expensive than Bilstein through Rovertym - clearly the Bilstein importers are making quite a margin.

Finally, if anyone has fitted the B994/B995 shocks, just wondering if they allowed extension to the extent that brake lines will have to be modified?

Sorry guys I posted my thread twice by mistake.

I looked up the following for my 2003 Disco.

Bilstein - KYB - Rancho - Monroe - Edelbrock Automotive Truck Shocks and Struts - Shockwarehouse.com

$359.80usd for the whole set (BE5-6046-H0 Bilstein Land Rover Discovery II,BE5-6047-H0 Bilstein Land Rover Discovery II)

$69.49usd for the BE3-A580-HO Bilstein Landrover Steering Stabilizer.

    $128usd to post (with Tracking).

    1AUD = .90USD

    So around $615AUD landed

I believe that the Kings springs are around $180 for the fronts and $200 for the rears.

So all up around the $1000 for the setup. Does anything local come near the price and quality?

    Cheers Mark

A year has passed since you wrote regarding suspension upgrade on your Disco.

What news? Did you go ahead with the purchase, get it all through Australian customs, installed and running sweetly???

Asking because my 2004 is needing some attention in the springs/shocks department and this looks like a good set up since I want to keep it std height (carparks & garage etc) and having read all the other results to my search result....... and fallen off my chair at the cost difference between USA and Aus supplied Bilsteins.

    Cheers
