    Disco 1 tdi alternator

Project veh alternator (MagnetoMarelli) bearings are noisy, need replacing.

Any info on the forum about solutions? I've searched but not seen.
Help would be appreciated from the gurus.

You can fit a Standard Bosch Item. However you need to make some spacers, so the belts line up, will find some more info if you want!

Thanks to you for the info. Are the bearings easily obtained through Bearing Wholesalers, or the like? Or are they 'special'?

    Cheers

    are you sure ?
All the info I have is that no Bosch alternator has the same pivot hole length and foot to foot measurements of the MM or Lucas Tdi ones.

I have a Bosch catalogue and the MM dimensions and nothing is close.

Sorry, can't help with the Disco one as I've only rebuilt a Defender one and they are totally different, but from what I've seen posted the bearings are standard off the shelf metric ones for the Disco. The Defender one is the curly one, with a special needle roller in the back. The Disco one uses a conventional sealed roller bearing front and rear.

If it is just noisy bearings then just pull the alternator apart and put new ones in.
I did this in my V8 Disco1 alternator. You need to do some unsoldering/soldering but other than that it is just bolts.

If it is all that is wrong with it then it will be a very cheap repair (less than $10).

I replaced the troublesome MM on my old 200tdi Disco with a Bosch unit from an XF Falcon. I had to make a very simple bracket as the Bosch housing was narrower at the top than the MM and the wrecker let me scout around to find a suitable adjuster bracket. I took the alt. to the auto elec. to get a star point fitted to run the tacho and he told that for some reason a lot of the XFs had them standard, Too easy. I got the output bumped up a bit though.
    Cheers,
    Anthony.
