    TD5 Rough Idle...

    Hey ya!

td5 D110 .. 199000kms on the clock .. and it just started to get a rough / bad idle / bad performance.

I am guessing its oil in the harness .. The oil been there (in the harness / red plug) for the last 60,000km and I was ignoring it as it was not causing me issues .. so I am guessing it is rearin its head now!

Some things about it .. its worse when its cold .. once its warm (and you turn the car on/off.. it can come back to normal) its as if its dropped a cylinder .. but it works fine sometimes.. if you restart the car ..

It can also happen when driving.. it could be normal, driving fine, then it goes rough .. but does not go rough to nice again ..

Fuel usage is up .. about 5-10%

Any other things I should look for ?

look also for oil and crud getting past the intercooler/egr that might have deteriorated the workability of the pressure sensor on the inlet manifold.

Id say it could be the oil in the harness too. I changed mine last week and its not too hard to do. If you clean the plug properly you could see if it improves as a test

Unlikely to be gow plugs. They dont really need them in England let alone over here.

Is it chipped just out of interest?

Crank position sensor maybe. Mine failed at 13k miles but in that case it was high revs rather than tickover.....

Start with the known issue which you seem to have, No point chasing other things until you rule out the obvious!

    Cheers

Yeah glowplugs wouldnt matter, I never let them warm up anyway .. and it starts first turn ..

Oil is my thought .. sigh .. will fix it when I get back .. I also get high idle .. always been like that .. maybe it will fix that too

What did you flush the line with .. ?

    Thanks again!

I used a mineral turps but it seemed to affect the seals so be warned...... Remove the orange ecu plug seals if you use it. You cant remove the seals from the plug on the injector loom end... If you leave it for a while it seems to revert back to its original size.

Brake cleaner seems to also be a popular choice.

Couple of pics below to maybe remove some of the worry of taking the top off the engine:

Remove cover. 3 bolts. place aside

Remove all bolts holding top cover (easiest to remove the rear sound deadneing cover also)

    Lift off cover

    Unclip injectors

Push plug out of front of engine upwards. (fairly easy)

    Refit

    etc!

    Hope this helps

    Hi Cameron,

I got the seal and loom from my local Land Rover Dealer.

    Loom, pt Number: AMR6103: $134.38+GST
Rocker seal, (there are 2 types) mine was the earlier ERR7094: $69.77+GST

    Cheers

Thanks for that .. will get onto it monday!

Just cleaned the ecu and that side of the harness, so I hoping the real issue is the other side!

    Ah the joys!
