    Power Trouble

Hi Guys this is my first ever post on here so here goes.
I have a 2003 TD5. On first start up, hot or cold, it seems to have no power and doesnt seem to want to rev up. Once it does decide to rev up it gets a surge of power and away you go and doesn't seem to miss a beat untill the motor is turned off again. Anyone got any ideas on what to look for. Its as though its not firing on all cylinders or the turbo is not working.

    Regards:

    Eck

    Welcome..

There are a few possible things to look for I can think of...

    1. Oil in the ecu wiring loom/plugs
    2. sticking wastegate actuator

    Cheers

you're sure to get some actual educated answers, but i'll go first

if what u described was only when cold, i'd say its just a diesel issue.

by hot, do u mean u can return from a drive, turn the car off, and then restart it, and it is just as bad?

perhaps the cat is a bit blocked, the egr system is gunked up and is stuck open, injector/computer issues(likely cause can be oil in the harness)

also it could be the turbo itself. perhaps its not getting the oil it needs and at startup everything takes a while to lube up/ free up.

these are all guess's. hopefully someone can give you something better to work with.

    good luck.

    oh and welcome too

My thought was a sticky wastegate actuator.

Mine used to be really bad and then one day just got better. Only does it occasionally now.

    take your pick...

    waste gate
    turbo bearing fouled
    intercooler fouled
intercooler hoses (not likely but maybey)
    MAP sensor out of spec
    EGR sticking
    dying fuel pump
sticking fuel pressure regulator (thats a very long shot)

all of them come to mind.. a bit more info is needed and are you willing to do some DIY investigating to glean more info?

Sorry tp take so long got called out to work.

When i say hot its as you describe. I can turn the motor off after a drive and it usually does it again if a started a few mins later. Struggles untill it revs up for the first time then is ok.
I have disconnected the EGR after it was all gunked up( and cleaned it out)bye putting a plate in the pipe and blocking off the 2 vacuum pipes. I did have trouble with the injector harness with a broken pin inside but replaced the broken pin. What is the Cat?
I did have the fuel regulator replaced under waranty about 12 months ago.
How do i check the Turbo waste gate.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys.

    Regards:

    Eck

    Thanks blknight.
I am willing to do some DIY investigating.
I cleaned all the hoses into and out of the intercooler when i disconnected the egr unit and cleaned it out.
The fuel pressure regulator was replaced under waranty 12/18months ago( although i thought it had a power drop when they did this).
The turbo seems to spin freely and with little wear movement. with the hoses off i could spin it by hand and i checked it for movement(just cause i had it off i think lol).
The MAP sensor is clean but i guess that doesnt mean its ok i guess.
But im will to try any tests you think may help.

that pretty much cuts you back to checking the intercooler hoses.

have someone start it up while you watch them, if they flex at all they're toast.
