RTC Steering Damper

I am putting an RTC steering damper on the Disco (95 D1), but it looks like the coil on it will be rubbing on the track rod.

Is this normal or do I have to use a relocation kit with the RTC damper?

I guess it is possible that the track rod is bent, but it doesn't look like it is.

Thanks

Andrew

I put one of these on my MY96 tdi many years ago. I know this really doesn't answer your question but it was the worst thing i ever did. I replaced it with a bilstien a few months later for a huge improvement.

As for the clearance, from memory, it was very tight, not a lot of room for the coil. Mine didn't rub as such but it did hit at times as there was some marks on it when i took it off.

I too had an RTC damper on my Tdi. It was rubbish, I replaced it with a Bilstein, which does not have the RTC spring.
The difference was amazing. Its been around 150,000 kms and the Bilstein is still doing it's job.

The RTC units look good, but certainly did not perform well on my Tdi

Thanks guys.

I have fitted it now and will have to see how it goes.

It looks like it may rub a bit where the spring attached to the shock.

It could also just be a bit of mud/grease it is rubbing on.

I will check it in a few days and see how it looks.

What size tyres and rims and lift where you running? Just curious as thinking of fitting one to my rangie when on 35s to help it run true on the black top.

Thanks Matt. That is what I want to hear As you know we do long trips on black top at times and I still want the nice feel The way my 89 is now I can drive for hours and still feel fresh.
Sure will do caster when springs and lift sorted.

I have one on my Defender and they are a bugger to get set up right, but it works well. Gets rid of that annoying minor vibration most Defenders have. The return to centre bit takes a little bit of getting used to.
