Couple of winch related questions

My bullbar will be a few weeks away so time to get organised to install the winch (Warn 9.5 XDC). So a few questions.

What is the best way to wire up the positive and negative from the winch on an 08 Defender?

Who is a good place to get synthetic rope, hook and aluminium hawse fairlead from? Looking at using OKoffroad as I know others have used them.

Has anybody used the Warn wireless remote system? Looks interesting, but it's way down on the accessory list. Is it any good?

Would definitely reccomend Okoffroad.com. I got my rope through them and have been really pleased...and they have good prices.

I got my rope and alloy fairlead from okoffroad pretty quick postage, it cost around $50 to get it here. I got the 5/16 rope 30 mt length, used it a couple of times seems to pull my defender ok. If I ordered it again I might have got the 3/8 rope but oh well.

good luck with your purchase

ARB modified the mounts on current D2 bars to take the 9500XP

The defender bar will happily take the 9500..

As for battery, run the cabling back to the battery - both positive and negative..

Yes, I noticed you're name on one of the feedback quotes.

Tombie: Yes, thought the battery was the best option. No harm in asking though. Thanks!

I use a rope from masterpull and am happy with it. It has been heat treated and is a little stiffer than most ropes, but it doesn't go fluffy either.

Master-Pull Superline XD Winch Rope

On the first meter of rope I have a outer sheath covering it. When I see this starting to come out the fairlead I know it is time to stop unspooling.

And the remote control is very handy when your half way up a hill looking for an anchor point and need just that little bit extra. It also means less stuffing around when your getting in the cab with a wire running from the control box and up over the bonnet, but this can also be resolved by an incab switch for your winch. (I dont have an in cab switch on mine atm cause I dont want the 4 & 6 year old playing with it when they play 4wding when the truck is parked in the driveway )

I used OKOffroad also, Rope and fairlead delivered was about half the cost of just the rope from A-RB! (It did take 2 weeks though) I ran the wiring from the winch behind the crossmember the radiatior sits above, then straight down the top of the chassis rail to the battery box.
