Maby but the reliability and tuneability would pay off over time and if ya have the ability to make the wiring harness up yourself a base map should be able to be found then with a good dyno guy it should be running sweet in no time on a dyno

Take your point about dual maping driving what your doing (you can do this with either a replacement ECU chip or a Unichip/Haltech piggyback ECU for a 14 CUX/Hotwire, where GEMs requires 2X chips, ie one for fuel one for ignition).

So maybe instead of hijacking your thread I will post under a performmance orientated thread. that covers 3.9L V8 air intakes, MAF adjustments, re-chipping, timing, piggyback ECU's and exhausts.
I look forward to the 3.9l V8 performance thread

Not 2 Interceptors/piggybacks, only if you were doing dual mapping by changing original 2X chips on a GEM.

I know Unichip and Haltech will take at least 2 X maps.

Do you think these kinds of interceptor systems will make it easy to slot a TDV8 into a Standard V8 Rover when that time arizes?

Just something I think about late at night

Hope this isn't too off topic but...

I'm having an LCD display screen setup in my P38. Does anyone know if i can run an AV output from the haltech interceptor to the screen? I know that they're tuned via a laptop so just need the right connection but not sure if it's possible to monitor different engine parameters while driving...

Not really a neccessity but would be great to be able see what's happening under the hood in different situations.

I've never heard of any reliability problems with the GEMS engine management. The advantage of an aftermarket ECU is the ability to tune it.

The Interceptor has a serial port which would connect to your carputer. The software does display a number of parameters. The software can be downloaded from the Haltech site.

You won't get much on the LCD screen as i understand it much of the diagnostics is coming from the dyno. The interceptor simply takes the signals from your engine sensors (rather than them going direct to your engine management system) and relays a different set (better ones - i.e. tuned) of responses to your engine management system thereby tricking it into running smoother, more economically and with more power. It is a bypass to avoid the engine running to the default specs to meet the various emission, power and other controls placed on engines of today. The input to the interceptor is to tell it what to say to your ECU - all you would get from it is the values from your sensors on your car.

Ron yes to the dual mapping on the interceptor.

You will need a full engine management system which haltech also do or other companies or alternatively the ECU and associated wiring and sensors for that engine. Some of them come up cheap on ....bay

Cheers,
Remy

Lavis L what Ron and Remy (good name for TV show there) indicate here is right IMO. All I can add is that from my experience in taking OBDI (as opposed to pee easy OBDII/post 96to deal with) data out of a Hotwire/14CUX to display via Windows software iin a carputer, is that I would check to see if Haltech hardware and software can handle doing that data download continiously. I am not sure they are designed to do this.
