    immobiliser/alarm issue on Td5

    Hello all, gremlins have struck again.........

    Similar issue as posted earlier by Landyprincess, my Disco wont unlock or lock every time with the keyfob, i've tried both of my keys with the same result. The problem started two days ago with another symptom being when trying to start all correct dash lights come on and fuel pump runs, but no cranking at all. Retry a couple of times and she fires up.......
    I've got incab voltmeters hooked up permanently and today noticed that the cranking battery dropped to just under 10 volts when the starter was cranking. So, could a dying cranking battery affect the reliable operation of the alarm/immobiliser?

    Just changed the battery from a Supercharge SN70Z (490CCA) which had been in there for 2 years to a new Bosch 700CCA Battery. Disco now cranks over alot better

    but problem with the alarm/immobiliser reamains
    Any clues on where to look next? Fobs are working fine, little red light comes on with both the key fobs i have, also, problem developed overnight and is random, not an issue with the signal being blocked.

    Any clues as to possible isuues would be great.

    Latest update of what i've found so far for anyone having similar problems.

    I have a Traxide dual battery system that only isolates the aux battery at 12.5 volts, this i think was masking an issue with the cranking battery starting to fail under load. If i went out to start the disco and the aux battery was'nt isolated, then she'd start no problem. If it had run down a bit more after being parked up the batteries woul be isolated from each other and it would be a hit and miss as to whether she'd want to start of not.
    Existing cranking battery was a 490CCA rated battery so suspect it was a bit underpowered for the job anyway, replaced with a 700CCA and things are much better...........so far

    Also,

    mentions in the owners handbook that the keyfob battery should last 2 to 3 years dependant on use, i've had the disco over a year now and worked out of it for a good portion of that, resulting in "above average" use of the keyfob for locking/unlocking. So i changed the batteries in my keyfobs anyway. Found the correct keyfob battery at Repco for $3.50 each and also noticed that coles sold them for $7.00 each and the local chemist had them for $4.00. Battery is a lithium ion 2032 battery.

    So, we'll see if the problem continues or if it'll be one of those annoying ones that pops up when it's mos inconvenient

    Phil,
    Assuming not an interference problem with the fob from high tension wires and the like, I also had a problem when the sensor, which is located in the ceiling behind the back seats, was faulty. It may be that yours is on the way out and only works intermittently. Fooled the LR service people in Parramatta for 2 days, who assumed it was a fob and computer problem.
