'03 Td5 Auto holding gear
It could just be my imagination but my disco seems a little more reluctant to shift up a gear. Traveling at 80k and it seems to hold third revving at 2500 when I would expect it go straight into fourth revving at under 2000...
a couple of months ago at 120k all diff and box oils were changed to full synthetic Castrol oils... I thought it could be the computer and maybe disconnecting the battery for a period may resolve....it is a computer driven box ain't it? Anyone else seen this and what did you end up doing to fix it? |

JC...pretty sure it was as it's what the mechanic said he did...but I will check it again anyway..
It is going into fourth but have to rev it a little harder and a little quicker to have it change at the right time...Should have mentioned that in the original post. If I am a little more aggressive with the loud pedal, it changes more accurately. So sounds like a pressure issue..... ..owning a Land Rover is never boring is it.. |

Youve probably done this, but have you checked its not in sports mode?
They also sort of hang in 4th & wont lock up if cold, sit around 2500rpm at 100k's,until they warm up then drop back to around 2200

And to answer your question, my TD5 did the same thing.. Was (1) stuffed MAF and (2) ATF level slightly low.

I think I have a problem the other way round, however when in 4th gear and the accelerator is released, engine braking does not last as long as I remember it used to. That is, the engine will slow the car down for a bit and then it releases so the car feels like it's free wheeling without any engine braking. This is also the case in 3rd gear driving at 40- 60 kmh. When this happens, I guess the torque converter lets go then the tacho drops to idle.
I'm sure it used to engine brake for longer...... |

OK, I have had the oils and computer checked. All check out OK. So I am now looking at the MAF.
If it is the MAF, however, I'd have thought that I would see an increase in fuel consumption but I am still getting under 10 per 100...What about the TPS? Could it be the TPS and how would I check? Before I go and invest into one of these units, if someone in Sydney has a Td5, 03 or 04, and they don't mind me quickly fitting their MAF into my car for a lap around the block, then I would be most appreciative..... If I have to buy one of these, I only want to use OEM, can you suggest a place for me to purchase for cheap cheap cheap. Maybe a store in sunny England ![]() Cheers Ciane |
