What type of electrical connectors for accessories?
I've got a number of 12V electrical connections in my car for camping. IE plugging in lights etc etc. I've been using the small anderson connectors, and they were perfect, but they seem to be made of brittle plastic and keep cracking. They are also expensive.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what you use for regular plugging/unplugging of accessories. I know I can use ciggie points but they are large and disconnect easily.

I use Hella 12v accessory plugs, much like a cigerette lighter socket, but clip in VERY well, the downside is that, noone else has them, so no pinching power from anyone else, but with anderson plugs, it'll already be the case

I use either of the following Hella plugs. They plug into a regular cigarette lighter as well as the heavy duty sockets, by just slipping of the yoke on the tip. They are also called "Merit" plugs.
Jaycar sells them for about $5 . I agree that they are the best for plugging/unplugging. I have them on all my camping lights and sockets on my back bumper. Regards Philip A |

For most of our accessories, I use 2 pin polarised low voltage plugs and sockets. These are like a household plug, only of course they are 2 pin rather than 3. They offer a very positive connection (no pun intended) and I have had no trouble with these for more than 20 years.
They are available from electrical wholesalers. They are also available as extension lead plugs and sockets which I also use.

two pin
I'm with Numpty. I have had highly reliable service from the two pin polarised plugs and have never had one disconnect accidently or fail in any way. I made up a cigarette lighter socket to TPP adaptor in case I ever needed to plug my stuff into another vehicle but have not used it in 15 years. Most of my fellow Land Rover club members use the TPP sockets as well.Cheers, 130man.

![]() I'm not sure how I break them... just by using them. They have to be plugged very carefully, and sometimes I would have them plugged in and the plastic would just fall apart. In my opinion it's a problem with the plastic as they seem very brittle. I did get some from you, but I've been getting them from Jaycar and they look the same. I'm afraid they all break. The collection in the above photo were just a selection of the ones that broke. It could be a batch problem but I've been buying them for over a year and none are any better. I don't think they are expensive if they last, but I was swapping 1 or two a day . I think I need to try something else.I like Numptie and 130man's ideas too. I think we had them on our jet boat and they didn't give any trouble. I also like the Hella or merit plug idea. I might have to look at both in the flesh. I think I'm leaning towards the merit plug because of the in-line plug might be better than the two prongs which might be better mounted to something.
