I missed typing a part of his text,it was "loud bang and shudder".
Perhaps it was a Landcruiser, not BigM carton

Hi Andrew, Was it from the front/center/rear of the vehicle? Could be a crown wheel or CV?? Or possibly a handbrake shoe sticking since he was going in reverse, (just a random guess since the vehicle is now driving fine)?? Can he drain his diff oils and check?

ID be thinking along the lines of a spline jump on a shaft or tooth off of a diff part somewhere...

The handbrake can release with a crack if its been applied hard after its been dragging and then allowed to cool. The contraction of the drum will hold the shoes untill the drum is turned enough to kick the shoes back. But that doesnt account for the shudder.

I would say it was the handbrake stuck on.
Remember I had the same thing about this time last year. Loud bang and shudder, sounding like metal breaking. I was sure I had at least done an axle minimum. Cars near by heard as well. Spent a fair bit of time looking for what was broken and found nothing. Checked axles, diffs, uni joints, gearbox etc.
For some reason dont have Graz's number in my phone. Just text him handbrake releasing. Anyway I am nights so would wake him up anyway.
Cheers

Hi
I'm back and strapped in at the work station
Thanks for the replys
Since the one occurance it has been ops normal so as suggested it may have been the handbrake ( although she wasn't in the left seat at the time ) or as suggested in LandyAndy's text the CDL. I did note that while selecting transfer box neutral the lever was somewhere between lock and unlocked. I may have an issue here as there is not any detent, unlike my Disco, although the locked light goes on and off as expected.
Cheers
