I've fitted a new foam base to my drivers seat, problem is because the foam is new the cover goes over very tight. In fact it's so incredibly tight there is no way I can refasten all of the retaining clips with the seat in situ.

How is the seat removed? RAVE shows earlier models like my old D1, this one has different mountings at the rear with a large torx bit holding the seat runner. I can't find any designation as to the size of the torx bit, so I don't know which one to buy, and my set doesn't go anywhere near as large.

Any specs/different ways to approach the job?

A 4in grinder would be different.

If you don't have the torx bit on hand then you could always just unbolt the entire seat base from the car. That is just normal nuts and bolts through the floor.

I've cracked the ****s now and I'm going to Bunnings, I'll just buy every torx bit until one fits.

What year is yours?

My 94 update has the seat base bolted to the floor with four bolts (not captive nuts which is painful). It also has the seatbelt bolted to the floor and the seatbelt clip bit bolted to the centre tunnel.

On my friend's 97 I don't know how his seat base attaches but the seat belt bolts to the seat on both sides.

Maybe they welded the seat bases in on the models where the seat belt attaches to the seat since the seat base is taking all the weight in an accident instead of the seat belt bolts.

Just get yourself a full torx bit set. Handy thing to have in a Disco.

Good job you wasn't gonna take out the gearbox through the floor // The car would be cut in half

slide the seat back and undo the bolts at the front, then slide the seat forwards, remove the torx bolts at the back, and the one connecting the seat belt to the seat.

I bought a pack of "Torx key set" from Supercheap .... $15 .... They had the hole in the center for those types of Torx bolts with the security pin in the middle

Job's done, took 15 mins exactly as duncanw describes. The difference in driving position and comfort is excellent.

Utemad - your disco sounds the same as my old one - four bolts with nuts straight through the floor. This one has two torx bits at the rear mounted to the base as pictured above.

For anyone who is interested, its a T50 bit and I bought a good set of larger ones for $30, so I now have a full complement of torx bits

Just went and had another look at mine. The seat base can be unbolted from the seat itself. It has torx bolts front and rear. However all four of mine go in from above through the rail itself.
From memory the 97 model bolted on to the (different) base differently. I'm constantly surprised at the differences between the earlier and later update Disco1s.
