550CCA should be adequate. Mine is 550CCA and works fine. I did replace the battery last year after I bought my Disco as I didn't know how old the battery in the car was.
Perhaps the problem lies elsewhere?
Our '95 Disco has been cranking over slowly lately. I cleaned the terminals etc but today it refused to start. The RACV called out ( I was at work) and tested everything saying it was a faulty battery- not holding its charge.
He spoke to my wife and looked up a V8 Disco battery in his book and it says 800cca.
The battery in it aint that old- probably less than 2 years and its an exide 550 cca extreme- a good battery, but he says being not up to task is what killed it.
I think the book is wrong.
Any opinions??

The physical size of a battery capable of 800 cca is quite large but would fit (unless it is an optima or similiar) so I expect it is less than that.
If buying a wet cell battery, I would be looking for something with a 12+ plates.
I run two N70** series in parallel. 550 is a bit small and depending what additional electrics you are running.
Combined new I had nearly 1200cca and man did it crank!!!
As both of mine are looking to be replaced as they are about 5 years old am looking at cranking deep cycles for a change.

Just need to check out the the charge limitations if any being deep cycle. Think these may be an AGM style.
MRV70 for right hand side and MRV70L for left hand.
Golden rule!
Fit the biggest bugger you can fit in there!
Always nice to have as much in reserve as possible.
I've been running the same size Extreme for a few years as my start battery with no problems in my V8. I also run a second Extreme as my aux battery and it does a great job running the fridge etc.
The Extreme have a 2 year warranty so you might be able to get it replaced if its failed.

I love it when a plan comes together!

Its a 3.9l low compression engine, it don't need much to crank over
But as Tombie said, fit the highest CCA that fits in the hole

If you wanna be sure, I got one, works alright
I have been running a 550cca as well.
When we crank the car sure it drains a bucket of amps but in the first 10 minutes, the alternator puts it all back as it runs at max.
Its the heat under the hood that is a real killer of batteries.
Put one in the boot with heavy duty leads and I bet it will last 5 years.
