I fitted a 90 degree silicon hose to my 300Tdi and the only improvment i noticed was the BLING factor (looked better)
I've just fitted a silicone 90 degree elbow to replace what I assume was the original turbo hose.
The old one hadn't split or even delaminated, but I had noticed recently that I could actually see it swell a bit when the engine was revved. Actually it was easier to feel it swell than see it.
I can't feel any swelling with the new one.
I am waiting to see if it has actually made any difference to the performance. I have tried to take notice of acceleration and deceleration on a couple of sections of road on the way in to town, so I will be able to give a seat of the pants assessment next week.
My tip is that it will make no difference to the speed drop off on long hills and that if I try really hard I might be able to imagine an infinitesimal improvement in initial boost.
Anyway if the original lasted this long (150k), the silicone one should see me out.

I replaced both hoses with silicone ones and the 90 deg hose is always covered in an oily residue on the outside, it comes back after wiping it clean. Don't know whats going on there. But the other one in always dry.
I think I can see where I went wrong.
I bought a black one so not only is there no change in performance, it still looks pretty much the same as the original one.
I should have got a blue one or even better, a red one.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that it didn't make any difference.
I did sometimes wonder if the boost might be noticeable a split second sooner. I theorised that the first little bit of boost might be wasted in stretching the hose.
The reality of course is that even if that is true, it is too small an effect to be noticeable.
It was really just a bit of preventative maintenance.

Mine (original300tdi) has had oil seep through since nearly new. Obviously the rubber, whatever the type, has a degree of porosity. Its also pretty soft when the engine is off.
The longer one to the bottom of the intercooler does not become oily due to it having a metal tube inside it.
I periodically remove the breather pipe and drain oil out where it collects at its lowest point behind the engine.
Mine should have a good coating of oil in the intercooler by now, but I think it would help in catching any dust which goes through the main air filter. Bit like the older style oil bath filter action. No drop in performance either.
