Been through this with my 300 TDi,
did not want to pay $600 for some thing Bosh sel for $100?
What I found is that you could get a high AMP Bosh one for the V8
but not the TDi
They mount on different sides.
Hi all,
Moving on from my dead alternator thread.
AMR3107 Land Rover part number.
I've rung around and locally I can get a genuine Magnetti Marelli alternator from a couple of suppliers (one has it in stock) for $500 give or take $5.
LR in Brisbane want $605.
However FWD Motors has offered an aftermarket UK sourced (UK made?) alternator for $400.
They said they use these alternators and they are fine.
Has anyone got any first hand experience with these aftermarket units?
I'll pay $500 if I have to but $400 is better so long as it will last.
Thanks.

Hi Hook. Do you remember the part number or where you found that?
I spoke to Ashdown's today and they have the MM but said there is an Ethel (??) brand which he thinks is related to Bosch but it is another $30 and is still 100 amp.
Why not get it re-wound and serviced?? Check the output, I know the RRC has a std 85A unit, but there is also a 100A Marelli as well. May still be worthwhile unless the regulator is dead.
Be wary of the Bosch as there is a few here who have had issues with noisy output causing interference with ECU's etc.
According to JC in my other thread he said it was probably the rectifier or rotor given my symptoms and to just replace the whole thing.
I don't mind too much. The last one lasted 200k kms if it was the original one. So I don't foresee ever having to replace it again.
It is 100 amp.
hi Justin
I may be able to help you here, i have a MM 100amp 1995 v8 alternator . i swapped my v8 to a 300tdi engine and kept all the parts . i was just about to put in on ebay but to save trouble i will let you have it for $250 . it all works well . im in brisbane . let me know if your interested . i also have bought other alternators from the uk and got them at a very good price all in , had no problem with them .

kieran ( taslev)
In Townsville.
Took the old ALT in to an Auto elec.
they mached it up to a bosh one out of there book to start with, then one of the shelf.
mounted on the wrong side like the V8.
Thanks Taslev but I've already ordered a genuine MM alternator. At least it should see me another 200k kms.
