    Vac filling radiators

    I was just reading this in good oil, Im trying to think of what advantages there are doing this.

    But if you did want to do it an even easier way, an oil evac pump and a replacement cap with a hole in it would be much easier and you could easilly fit a vac guage if you want and just run a hose to the filler on the engine to eliminate any air locks.

    I still cant think of an advantage over just filling up through the expansion radiator plug and topping up through the expansion tank with the top plug on the engine out to set you level.

    Sounds a bit messy with all the gear. I just point it up a slope, pull heaterline plug, expansion cap and radiator plug out, drain it from the LH block plug, stick hose in radiator and flush the block.
    Put the drain plug back in, fill it till radiator plug is full and put plug in, fill expansion tank till heaterline spews out then put plug back in, roll back on level ground, remove rad plug again to level it with the expansion bottle, add inhibitor and plug it all up again....

    I used to have a hose adaptor that I put on the heaterline and just attach the hose to it and force feed it but I lost the adaptor in a house move and havent made another one yet as I dont have the heater connected and it was excellent for removing airlocks in the core.

    thats all fine and dandy but the orig post was directed at TD5's!
    bleading a dirty old rover v8 is easy....td5's not so agrictural

    and there are things like the older holden appolo's that if not filled complete they get a vacume lock that warps the alloy head....and also speedway cars with rear mounted radiators, usually twins are really painfull to blead.

    td5s are easy, park it up on an angle remove the bleed screw and fill it from the reservoir as high as you can get it, turn the heater on flat out and run it at about 1500ish with the cap off it'll bubble the bleed screw a little and when that stops your done, park it on level ground and top off the tank.

    I thought vac bleeding radiators went out with the water cooled combies that had the engine at the rear and the radiator up the front.
