    Allisport VNT/intercooler kit-awesome.

As some of you know I bought a def130 with a 300tdi for the purpose of towing a 2.7 ton boat,in order for the vehicle to have enough power I installed a kit from Allisport in the Uk, this kit comprised of a VNT Turbo and manifold a full size intercooler and an uprated alloy radiator, has these improvements made a real world difference to the power output of the 300 tdi?-yes substantially.
Without the boat on the 130 goes like a cut snake from about 1600 Rpm onward and has much improved driveabillity, fuel consumption doesn't seem to be impacted too much,in fact I had fitted a 1.21 transfer case and the car was great to drive with less revs,I have since put a 1.41 case back in to help with moving off in first gear up inclines with the boat on but if you weren't towing heavy loads then this could be a handy conversion.
Now towing the boat,my boat comes in at over 2.7 tons loaded with a lot of windage which can have a huge impact and I wanted to be able to tow at highway speeds if safe to do so,I am very happy with the real world results and the goal has been achieved to my relief.
M1 between brissy and the gold coast I can sit on 100 klm's no worries all tho with the noise 90 to 95 is more comfortable-sound insulation in progress.
Between Loganholme and Redland Bay there are some steep hills 90klm speed limit and on most but the steepest hill it maintains speed and the worst hill it drops back to 83 kph and that is a long steep part of the road.
On average long inclines from about 80kph the vehicle will accelerate if asked to.
Worst EGT's are 620 degrees and I think this is where the cool air from the intercooler helps along with the big radiator to keep excessive EGT's down, normal running is between 300 and 400.
No Dyno figures yet due to lack of time but will get them done in the new year.
Its early days yet but I am really happy with the result, would I recommend this kit-definately it is a vast improvement to when I drove the car first without these improvements and Andrew from Allisport is great to deal with,he is very helpful.

Yeah its a good kit for a 300Tdi.

Pre-production TD5 ones have also proved excellent - though they need a bespoke remap and commercially arent available as yet!

A good remap will get rid of much of the lag... The VNT just make it go like the preverbial **** off a shovel and gives even more low down grunt!!

Its a bit like a highly tuned TD5 combined with the bottom end of a Tdi - or to put it simply - its the dogs danglies!

Have you adjusted the injection pump?

If not, it would be worth doing.

With regards to the transfer case gears, I find the same thing with my 200tDi. It does have trouble taking off uphill with a trailer - or sometimes without the trailer.]

But on the highway it has made a huge difference and is a lot easier to sit on the speed limit noise wise.

    Cheers

Sounds fantastic, what was the ball park on price for the conversion if you dont mind me asking?

I would love the VNTon mine and a bigger cooler wouldnt go astray but for my driving not essential.

And just a small correction, The intercooler cools the intake charge so that the turbo can be more efficient (cool air is a lot smaller than hot air) so it effectively fits a bit more into the cyl for effectively more capacity and this has no effect on EGT's.

EGT's are taken after the charge has burned (or is still burning) so are not effected in any way from the intercooler and the radiator cools the engine in general and has very little effect on EGTs if any.

You have to control EGT's from fueling but it sounds as though you have them pretty much sorted at 620 max, but I wouldnt be asking much more of it.

Great to hear such good feedback, thanks

They go higher than that with a stock engine on stock fuel settings
