    TPMS Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems

I am gradually getting my Disco set up to go caravanning again, and am thinking about fitting a TPMS to the car and tandem wheel van.

I know Tyredog do one but it has a maximum of six wheel coverage so its out, but searching round I found Davies Craig do one that can handle 22 wheels Tyre Pressure Monitor

Has anyone any recommendations for this or other products?

    Regards,

    Ryall

I have a Tyredog TPMS and I have a couple of issues.
    1. I am not certain that the reaction time to changes in pressure is instantaneous, seems to lag a little, (I stand to be corrected).
    2. When viewing the temperature, the screen reverts back to pressure quickly so if you are trying to monitoring temperature rise, you constantly need to change screens.
Aside from these the Tyredog has been totally reliable.

I am looking for a system also. I am currently checking out TPSM Australia. I f interested try the web site immediately after the response I received to a query: With regard to your question about the alarm levels, these are preset at three different levels. First alarm is when pressure loss is 12.5%, second is 25% and third is 50%. While these levels are preset and cannot be changed, they are based on what you enter as your preferred starting pressure. These can be individually set for each wheel position, for example we have many commercial customers with different pressures in the front, rear and trailer wheels all being monitored. So with this in mind, you can have a front tyre set at 35psi that will give you its first low pressure alarm at 31psi, while a rear tyre might be set at 45psi, this will alarm at 39psi. please also note that there is a fast leak alarm for all positions where there is an immediate loss of pressure.

Get one that doesn't screw onto the valve as those are easily stolen.

Trouble is with the internal ones is you can't turn them off. Heard of one instance where the tyre concerned got a puncture, into the back of the Rangie, & the alarm then drove the driver mad for the rest of the trip.

pop the bead and take it out. 5 mins. The system should account for a flat anyway.

I am trialing this USB setup at the moment as a part of my onboard PC system comprising a Centrafuse front end. Tire Pressure Monitoring System | Portal Media

Currently only available in five tyre max however this is being looked at by Portal Media. In the US TPMS are or about to be compulsory OEM gear for car manufacturers.

Like most internal mounted aftermarket TPMS units it has a replacement valve stem used to hold the transmitter in place. However as I have internal Beadlocks I have to keep the normal stem to get air in and out of the space surrounding the beadlock inner tube.

After mucking around with brackets incorporated into the standard stem I have simply sikaflexed the transmitter into the wheel centre space below the beadlock tube.

While still in testing phase I have had no problems inc offroad pressures approaching zero.

I have thought about valve stem mounted Tyre Dog for the Beadlock tube as tube valve stem is on the inside face of a 7" wheel and difficult to check and or inflate. If Tye Dog fouls disks however I will have to wait until I get wider negative offset wheels to allow beadlock tube valve stem to be located on the outside away from the disks.

I've been getting TyreDog 4 and 6 wheel kits for members for a while now. The newer 6 wheel kit has a relay unit allowing for monitoring of up to 10 wheels. Details at Tyredog Product Range
I think I save members about 20% so let me know if you want more stuff.

    I'd be interested.
Which to get though, internal or external sensors?
