Disco 3 Diff Problems
Hi, I've just had my Discovery 3 in for a 40,000 km service and was told that both my diffs are shot and need replacement (under warranty....just). The dealer advised that the diff fluid/lubricant was contaminated (metal particles) and that "we've had a few of these". A chicken and the egg situation, did the diff fail due to contaminant or is the contamination due to the failure??
Regardless, I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this issue or it's cause??
Thanx, Coolcat

The contamination is due to the failure, possibly pinion bearings.
He shouldn't really have told you that "we've had a few of these" though - there's a script for this sort of thing that goes along the lines of "gee, that's unusual. Never seen one of these fail before"
.
