    Chassis build for "box" trailer

Have a mate in Sydney who is getting me to build the chassis and running gear for a bomb proof box trailer.

Chassis will be hot dip galvanized
Boxes have been fabricated in aluminium in Sydney and trucked up to me.

Main box is 2400x1300 fully seamed watertight
It will have a hinged lid for access. Lid will have panels and racking for loose stuff
Front box is sized to fit a 40L engel, 60L esky, two N70s, air compressor, hydraulic brake system and other electricals

Pretty much my job is to make the chassis and running gear:
Track and wheels match the tow vehicle a GU patrol
Using 100PFC for majority of structure but a single draw of 100SHS4
Running a triangulated fourlink suspension to a stepped axle
Firestone rolling sleeve bags for springs - GU rear Bilstein dampers
Toyota Hilux (6 stud) stub axles, hubs and brakes
    Electric over hydraulic brake system

Anyways this is useless without pics.
Have spent last few days laying out the chassis and suspension link locations
All components are now burned in. All dimensions are square and tru within 2mm
Suspension link locations are all within 1mm.

Note that the centre cross member will likely move back. It was set at that location for bracing while welding. Water tank will go behind it. Spare wheel located on pivoting bracket between suspension link mounts tight up under the main box.

I will try to keep this updated if people are interested.

Them tyres save a bunch on unsprung weight, pretty well puncture proof too but load rating is pretty poor

Not too many updates after the weekend. Have tinkered with the tow hitch step down.
Still thinking over how to set up the swing down spare wheel.
Waiting on plasma cut parts for air spring mounts.

    windows are from memory 2200x2100
10mm toughened glass with UV reflective gold layer on outer surface - Al frame.
They were in the Cairns International top level atrium before it was rebuilt in the late 80s or some such
The old fella who sold them to me "couldnt let them go for any less than $100 each - these are expensive you know." Shame he only had three!

I set them up as centre pivot so as to make opening them easy/possible considering each one weighs about 100kg.

What about just triangulated uppers and keep the stock lower links?
Could you then use prefabbed brackets from the states at the chassis end
Would that provide enough 'location' of the axle?
Still waiting for someone to copy the track mc2 link system

    Just sayin, that's all

Not sure what you mean by "keep the stock lower links"
The lowers on this frame will be parrallel, uppers triangulated.

I could indeed have used bracketry from say Ruffstuff but they get spendy with shipping. Especially when compared with steel I alreadfy have, the bandsaw and a 5" and voila I have brackets...

Links will be made from scratch using thick walled tube.
Majority of the link ends will be poly bushes running on 3/4" HT bolts. (tough and essentially bomber proof)
Upper axle mounts will be M16 rod ends - allows for some rotational adjustment of axle to manage the air spring.

I really like the Track suspension... It achieves the cross trailer load sharing that is missing on all other inde setups I have seen on trailers. The central pivot bushing is the sticking point, not as easy to source or manufacturer bushes and mountings compared with 4 simple straight tube links.

Sorry, thought you meant triangulated uppers and lowers... Gotcha now
I was wondering if you were re-using the original lower links but the rod ends answer that question
Re the track suspension, could you use LR front radius arms and axle housing, cut off just inboard of the radius arm bracket. Turn the whole lot around to be trailing, then fab up from there to the opposite chassis rail (track style)
I was thinking that the stock LR trailing arm bush could be used at the chassis end
Those pin type bushings have enough flex for a trailer as well as built in roll stiffness which isn't a bad thing as a progressive travel limiter.
I can't seem to find any pics of the original track chassis bush?
