No Australian Freelanders were 2wd. This has had a VC and possibly IRD failure. Indeed the IRD in it still may actually also have failed - it is the drive to the rear that fails and sometimes will not take out the rest of the IRD. This happened to me and the IRD would still work with the rear drive disconnected.

If you purchased this from a car yard and it has a warranty and this "defect" was not advertised you may be able to have it fixed under warranty. With second hand parts this will cost about $2,500 to fix and double that with new parts. Half the costs if the IRD is OK.

However, if you are happy to have a a 2wd Freelander it will drive quite well - however you will have major problems on-selling it as it is.

Thanks guys.

As I said I was assuming ...

I don't know what I'm going to do yet, 'coz to me is quite difficult everything due to I don't speak very good English, don't know the Aussie rules and I'm just adapting myself to a new country ... so let the car as it is for now. I don't like troubles and I don't like "to get a storm in a glass of water" like we say in my country. The color? it's not my favorite ok, but it's right. She hasn't had mechanic problems till now.

I hope don't sound rough or rude or something like that. I'm grateful for your comments.

Whatever you decide to do or not to do - you should be aware that there are plenty of people on this forum who are more than happy to help and provide advice.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Camillo

Please call the WA Dept of Employment and Consumer Protection on 1 300 30 40 54.

They will tell you where you stand legally and what your rights are. There may not be much that you can do but make the call.

Good luck. There is no doubt that you have been ripped off.

Sorry to hear this Camillo, somebody has gone to great efforts to hide the fact that the 4WD system has been removed.Hopefully you can still enjoy the Flander, still would beat walking/public transport.

I'll second that.
They gave me great advice when I found my engine was stuffed.
But do it NOW as I know there is a limited time from when you purchased it to do anything about it.

Cheers,

G'day Camillo,

Nice looking Land Rover. Flandies are fun and quite good if looked after. I am happy with my 98 diesel Flandie - it has its problems but you can expect that for a 10 year old car.

Sort out the 2/4wd issue as soon as you can. Flandies are quite capable off-road and I am sure you'll be happy with it.

It comes down to what you want to do with it.If it is a daily driver I would leave it and drive around in it and buy a good series for off road,a series will eat it in the bush anyway. It has the most expensive troublesome part of the car removed so the thing will probably just go and go and give years of service.
