Snorkel woes

G'day all.

I've managed to pick up a snorkel from a wreckers. Can't wait to get it on.....which is where the problem arises.

I don't have enough balls to start cutting holes in the body panels on the D2, so I need to enlist some help in getting it chucked on.

Had a chat to Kev at Rovertech, they're a bit reluctant to start cutting holes in panels too....and I certainly don't blame him, but he couldn't think of anywhere that might.

So the question is, does anybody know anywhere that might be able to help me out?

If your're looking to pay for it, you could always try ARB or Opposite Lock, I would expect them to do snorkels.

What kind of snorkel is this ? Safari ?

I had one on my old D1, I marked it all out with a template to cut the big hole but I couldn't do it. I had to get my old man to cut the hole.

People reckon you can do it without a template but I'm not sure if that is a good idea.

I've just found my old instructions, they are for the 300 series Discovery. If you want them I will email them through to you, I can't imagine I've kept the template but I will check the shed tomorrow.

Might be worth phoning Safari snorkels and seeing if they will send you the template ?

Hi Sean
If its a Safari I SHOULD still have my template SOMEWHERE in the shed.
Its easy to do drill 2 holes with a holesaw and conect forming an oval hole.
Did you get the bit that fits to the inner gaurd to connect the airbox tube to the snorkel???? Its important to use LOTS of sillycum to seal it properly.
Im tidying my shed out at the moment will keep an eye out for it.

Thanks

What can I say guys, I really appreciate your offers and suggestions.

I really wasn't intending to put anybody out, and depending on the size of the barrel I would be tied over, I'm happy to pay for somewhere to install it. I love doing a lot of my own work, but cutting holes in panels...

Apologies, I should have provided more information. It's not a Safari, it's an Airflow...I know, I can hear the groans already, but it was a good price and will do the same job. There is no template for it. I think it would be easy enough to make a template up, but never having seen a template for a snorkel before, I could be wrong.

Does anybody know if I could source a template from a supplier? Even that would be fairly vague from what I gather, the Airflow templates have a reputation of being inaccurate.

I have the snorkel, the attachment fitting from the snorkel to the airbox, and something else I have never seen the like of before. No idea what it is, and neither did the wrecker. He thought it might part of it. To be honest I don't see where it could possibly be related to the snorkel, I'll get a pic up tomorrow and see if anybody has any ideas. All I have to source should be some 75mm joining hose, a couple of clamps and a huge amount of silicon/sikaflex.

Thanks again guys..
